stanlyn Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I cannot get Paint.NET to see and use the AutoFX PGE (PhotoGraphicEdges) plugins. Is there a compatibility issue? I added the plugin in the effects folder, paint.net's root folder and the FileTypes folder, and none worked... Quote
Rick Brewster Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Why would Paint.NET support those plugins ... ? There's no support for Photoshop plugins ... you'll need Photoshop. Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
stanlyn Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 >> Why would Paint.NET support those plugins ... ? So we can get away from heavily feature bloated programs like PhotoShop and Corel, and from what I've seen from Paint.NET, that is all I need to make the move for 85% of my photo editing work... So, if Paint.NET is going to ignore industry plugins like the AutoFX package, then it is forcing us to stay in their camps... (and what a shame) Quote
Ash Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 You can move 100% to Paint.NET for all your photo editing needs. Without the need to use other file format and such. Paint.NET is powerful enough. Quote All creations Ash + Paint.NET [ Googlepage | deviantArt | Club PDN | PDN Fan ]
Rick Brewster Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Although, a Photoshop plugin adapter for Paint.NET would be wicked. Right now the plugin model for effects cannot support this, but in v4 it probably will. That doesn't mean v4 will have support for Photoshop plugins "out of the box". It just means that the plugin model will support a DLL exporting a dynamic list of effects; right now only a static list (set in stone at compile time) is possible. (and what a shame) Not really, Photoshop plugins are designed for Photoshop, not the GIMP, Paint.NET, or any other image editing program. Quote
HarryH Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 There are more than 50 non-Adobe applications that run Photoshop plugins, so why should Paint.net not provide such a feature. Considering the thousands of available Photoshop plugins it would certainly be something that could make a lot of people switch to Paint.net. GIMP offers source code for a Photoshop plugin host, but it is not very compatible and many plugins have problems with it. I know a guy who wrote a Photoshop plugin host, which works with 99.9% of all Photoshop plugins, and he is offering it for sale. If you are interested, please let me know. Quote
Rick Brewster Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Nobody said it was a bad features. I simply asked what AutoFX PGE was, and stated that Paint.NET v4 wouldn't support this out of the box. I'm not buying code from your friend. I'm also not looking at GIMP's code, as it is released under an incompatible license. Code_Ember Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 As stated, Paint.NET supporting Ps plug-ins would be wicked but I'm very very sure Rick Brewster is trying to keep this program as simple and user-friendly as it is now. And isn't advertising not allowed in this forums? Quote http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f134/Code_Ember/daredevil_v3.png Code_Ember passed away on October 25, 2008. david.atwell Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I didn't see it as advertising. It looked to me like he was just trying to present an option that just happened to cost money. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

HarryH Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I do not want to sell anything. I would not earn anything anyway. And this guy who wrote the plugin host is not my friend. I was just trying to show some options for improving Paint.net. But if you do not want any help or suggestions, it is fine with me... In case Photoshop plugins should ever work in Paint.net, please contact me. I can mention it on my website (300,000 visitors/month) and in my newsletter (with currently 137,000 readers). I will do that for FREE, in case someone thinks I am now trying to sell ad space :-). Quote
Rick Brewster Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 In time, maybe / hopefully. There's a lot of work to get to that point, and there's only myself. There's already a 5-10 year backlog worth of features. Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
