Paint.net Portable

Hello,

 

So I am looking for a legitimate download for a portable 64bit version of Paint.net which I can use on a USB Pen drive. I have seen different sites claiming to have one, but I am weary downloading applications from 3rd party sources & prefer to download them from their home site when possible. I did a search here for "Portable" but nothing came up in the search. Could someone kindly guide me to the right place to download a safe portable version of Paint.net please?

I have PDN v4.0.6 installed on my external HDD from here: http://www.liberkey.com/en/catalog/browse.html.

It seems to work completely fine.

Since a few versions ago (4.0.7) all you need do is copy the paint.net installation folder to your USB. The link toe_head provided explains. Note that the target machine will need .net 4.6 installed.

Registered just to post in this thread.  Paint.NET is really fantastic software, but it's a truly a real bummer that there's no true portable version available. Liberkey, frankly, sucks and it uses an old version.

Portable paint.net is not as bad, but outdated.

 

Following Ego Eram's instructions above does not work:

The app writes the folders: "SessionData" and "Optimization" to the C:\Users\miabear\AppData\Local\paint.net  folders.

In addition, the following regsitry keys are written and re-written:

Consider this a desperate plea to the developer. Please give the legions of loyal users of your software what they want! The portability option.  While you're at it, perhaps an option to download a "ZIP" or "RAR"ed version of your software with no installer?

 

I can't believe such an amazing piece of software doesn't have this option yet.

A motivated third-party developer could create a custom launcher that cleans up the file directory ( %LocalAppData%\paint.net ) and the registry key after paint.net is closed.

The launcher could even write to the registry key with user defined values before the paint.net executable is opened. That way you'd always have your custom settings.

True, but wouldn't it be so wonderful is the application itself had the option of being natively portable?  A lot of apps do this using a custom command arguemtn -portable or something along those lines.

Indeed, I agree. I too hope Rick does this in the future, but in mean time, a DIY solution will work.
