  1. Moved to General Coding / Programming
  2. Anyway, Nick like I previously said but which may have been lost in the 80 pages of text above, you can go ahead and do this. You've got my permission / blessing.
  3. There are some other posts around here that go into greater depth on this ... I'd link them but I don't have the time right now to go find them (busy with a bunch of other stuff). Try doing a search for 'win2k' maybe?
  4. The current brush system has just outgrown the userbase. It was originally written over 2 years ago when nobody had any plan for the program or any idea it even existed. The way it works wasn't really 'designed' to work that way, that's just an artifact of what we did write. I knew at the time it wasn't very useful with a non-255 alpha value, but I also knew that the fix was very involved and couldn't be done in the short time that was available. It will be improved in a future release. I have done some prototyping and a lot of thinking about how this needs to work.
  5. Oops, Fair 'nuff. For now don't draw with reversed colors then
  6. trickman, I've never said it wasn't allowed. That would be awfully weird of me to restrict what people can or can't download. I simply can't provide any help at all for older versionf os Paint.NET -- my time is just too limited to be able to do this. megalithic, The file should be digitally signed. If it's signed by me (it'll say Eric though, not Rick) and the signature validates, then it's legit and you can rest assured it has not been tampered with at all.
  7. Nah, no published list, just report what you find. It helps me know how much others are paying attention, and how much any known issues are affecting people (lot of the same crash report = probably very important to fix ASAP, for example). To get around this right now just close Paint.NET and then manually relaunch it.
  8. The download page states XP SP2. http://www.getpaint.net/download.html We do not make previous versions available for download. This has been discussed in depth before, and the system requirements will not be changed.
  9. Nope The data going in to the codec is saved losslessly.
  10. Sorry, but we just use the GDI+ TIFF codec. Our goals have never included extensive TIFF support. Eventually we're going to migrate to the WIC codecs in .NET 3.0 / Vista, but I don't know how TIFF support will improve or change with that.
  11. You drew two gradients with opaque colors. Sounds normal to me. Try some colors with an alpha that is less than 255. That said, I'm also thinking of ways to make the "Alpha Channel Only" mode more intuitive. Right now it seems cumbersome to me.
  12. Yup, BoltBait already reported that actually Bug is filed, will be fixed for Alpha 3. In the meantime, don't use Enter to finalize the gradient. Switch to another tool and back again. For example, press S (Rectangle Select) and then G (Gradient).
  13. Cool, glad you like it. I'm going to go watch TV. P.S. The new Gradient Tool loves dual core CPU's ... it's multithreaded, and very noticably faster on an X2 or Core 2 Duo.
  14. This is the second public test release for v3.0. To install this from v2.72, make sure that you enable File -> Updates -> Also check for pre-release (beta) versions. The preferred way to get this is by using the built-in updater. From within Paint.NET 3.0 Alpha 1, got to the Help menu and then click "Check for Updates". Or if that doesn't work, download it straight from here: http://www.getpaint.net/files/PaintDotN ... Alpha2.exe Since version 3.0 Alpha 1, the following changes (and more) have been made: * New: Gradient Tool supports linear, radial, diamond, and conical gradient modes. * New: Merge Layer Down command in Layers menu and Layers window * Changed: A version of the Unsaved Changes dialog is now also shown when closing just 1 unsaved image, instead of the old fashioned Yes/No/Cancel MessageBox * Changed: Alpha Blending and Anti-aliasing buttons are now split-buttons, with different icon and some descriptive text * Changed: Shortcut key to open the MDI overflow list is now Ctrl+Q, instead of Ctrl+Space * If an important installation file is missing, Paint.NET will try to repair the installation instead of crashing * 256x256 icon format is now compressed, dropping EXE size by 150K * Fixed: a bunch of crashes that users were reporting * Fixed: "Load from toolbar" in Choose Defaults dialog did not pick up the active tool
  15. I'd suggest cropping it further to put more emphasis on the car, but heck yes BoltBait that's an excellent idea.
  16. I actually had a meeting with a guy in the .NET Framework group just yesterday regarding some automation stuff. Stay tuned. No, I can't say more than that.
  17. Works fine here ... make sure you can access stuff through port 8080.
  18. Actually, technically GIF by itself is lossless. However, quite often imaging programs must convert their images to 8-bit before running them through the GIF compressor.
  19. Aww, my first "picture fade." I used two pictures from http://larenn.deviantart.com Anyway there's your alpha-only option. The button to the right with the blue and salmon colored rectangles is just the alpha blending toggle redone with a new image and as a split button.
