Krypton_Man
If I'm posting this in the wrong place please do not delete it, just move it, please. About a year ago I found a tutorial for vectorizing images with Paint.net & now I couldn't find it to save my life. Does anyone happen to where to find it or another one like it? The one I saw was on a site that was for Paint.Net & Photoshop tutorials. I've searched this site, been all over Google.....I got nada. Here's an example: Before vectorizing... After vectorizing... I've seen stuff one the web about this not being possible with PDN but it is, I've tried it. jake2k
I've never seen a vector tut for paint.net but I have used vectormagic.com and used PDN for touch up, to bad they charge now :? Quote ^Click to visit my Flickr Gallery^
Mike Ryan
It is still not possible in Paint.NET. You are still having to use an outside program to turn those into vectors, so in theory you still cannot use Paint.NET to vectorize images. Krypton_Man
It is possible! Of course I'm not talking about a automatic process like vectormagic.com, it was a step by step tutorial. I'm gonna find it and prove all of you wrong because I now it can be done. Simon Brown
As per what MR said, are you sure it wasn't just a tutorial that used another program to vectorize an image, but used Paint.NET in some part of the process?

I don't care what you call it, all I know is a while ago I saw a tutorial for paint.net that had step by step instructions for making a picture go from the "before" image above to the "after" one. I probably won't be able to find it but I'm try like hell to & if I do run across it again you'll see... No, the entire thing was done in PDN. Why do you people find this so hard to believe? :? I swear it's the truth. Mike Ryan
You know what? You are right! Make screenshots and all of Paint.NET vectorizing and image.
Simon Brown
I think I know why what you are talking about is confusing. When you say vectorise, are you talking about converting an image to vector format or simply getting a vector-style effect?
jake2k
Ok your probably saying that pdn was used to make an image look like a vector and yes that could be done by just using the line/fill tools however "vector" is a type of image that pdn cannot create. Does that make any sense? Quote ^Click to visit my Flickr Gallery^

Does that make any sense? If that is the case, then it is simply the Oil Painting effect.

I'm talking about achieving the effect, I don't even know what a "vector format" is. Mike Ryan
Are you serious? You should have said Vector Effect. As previously said, use Oil Painting by going to Effects-> Artistic

Krypton_Man
Are you serious? You should have said Vector Effect. As previously said, use Oil Painting by going to Effects-> Artistic I didn't know it was called "Vector Effect". I'm experimenting with the oil painting effect right now and it does look like what I want but it's not nearly as impressive as the tutorial I saw. oma
this is a quick one most likely each picture will be a bit different settings but play with oil painting then median and use another copy of the original overlay at low opacity. as you can see smooth areas like arms come out best. high contour areas like the face so so. re loading down the page I played with and actually wrote down my settings. jake2k
How bout everyone take the first pic in this thread and spend a couple minutes experimenting in PDN and try to get that vector like style. I'm sure with all the talent we have here we can find something that works Quote ^Click to visit my Flickr Gallery^

Krypton_Man
here's what I did.... 1.) Duplicated it, unchecked the first layer. 2.) On the second layer I used the oil paint effect with the brush size at 3 and the coarsness at 3 3.) Used median on the second layer with the radius at 3 & the percentile at 50 4.) Re-checked the top layer and set it's mode to Darken with the opacity at 225. jake2k
Stock: Vector-ish: I'm still working on getting it down to a few easy steps, the only thing is that what would work for a small pic wont work the same on a bigger pic. The main effects I used were median at low levels and sharpen+. EDIT: I think I might have found a way... I know it's not exactly like his example but it's getting close Quote ^Click to visit my Flickr Gallery^
oma
considering what's been posted in answere to your challenge Jake I win. my settings for this attempt oil brush 3 coarsness 15 median 1 50 local enhancements 60 147 10. glow 1 -68 56 as I said before each picture will be different settings depending on colors in original. that because of the use of median.
