Plugin Slowdown Questions

Recommended Posts

#1: Do/can third-party plugins slow Paint.NET down?

#2: If yes for #1, what determines this slowdown; "light" vs. "heavy" plugins? How many plugins you have installed? Other factors?

#3: Is there any way to know if a particular plugin will slow the program down other than downloading + installing and testing?

#4: Can a faster computer negate slowdowns?

1. They only slow down the loading of the program.  After loaded, paint.net will run full speed no matter how many plugins are installed.

2. You should only install the plugins that you plan on using.  Having too many plugins just confuses most users as the menus become very full.

3. No.

4. Paint.net will run better on a faster computer, sure.  But, what it really benefits from is more cores.  So, a quad core CPU will run paint.net twice as fast as a dual core CPU.  Paint.net will also benefit greatly from increased memory.  Paint.net will run on 1 GB of memory, but 4, 8, or even 16 GB is much better.

Also: 64 bit Windows will run faster than 32 bit.

If you use third party plugins, remember to only use and download plugins from this forum. Downloading from any other website may put you at risk for viruses. A virus can slow down your PC. You can learn more about a certain troublesome virus here.
