Goonfella Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I have been trying out a few PS tuts recently but I sometimes get stuck as to which PDN effect to use to achieve a similar result as in PS. The ones I was wondering about this time was the `Sponge Effect' and the `Plastic Wrap Effect' which are both used to get a nice texture for a citrus fruit slice or even a stained glass window. Anyone have any idea which ones I should use? Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
Leif Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 >>stained glass window?<< There is an effect called ”Frosted glass” Actually there are two versions of it, so one of them is probably in some plug in. Try to search for it. Quote My DA: http://leif-j.deviantart.com/ -------------- Some people seek justice so persistent, that they will do great injustice themselves.

worldnewser Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 Well, back when I made my fruit piece (here and Here, the original PS tut called for a plastic wrap effect. Blooper directed me to the Height Field to Normal plugin. I guess it depends on the texture you're trying to make. But for my example Tried rendering clouds, then height field to normal and the Black and White. Then used a blending mode over the layer beneath it. Goonfella Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 Thanks Worldnewser. It seems like the same tut I was attempting. I`ll have a look for that Heightfield to Normal plug in. As for the stained glass, I have the frosted glass plug in and have tried using it without success -so far. Maybe I just need to keep playing with the settings until I get what I want. Didn`t know there were two versions though. Thanks for the tips. Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
pyrochild Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 There are not 2 versions of Frosted Glass. The plugin version has been incorporated into Paint.NET. Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
Goonfella Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 Yes I`ve just been hunting through the plug ins and noticed that. Thanks anyway. I found the Heightfield plug in. It never came up using the search box so I just looked for it myself page by page.I`ll try it out when I`ve got more time. Thanks for all your help. Sorry to be a pain( ) but what about the Sponge Filter? It gives this effect- This was used just before the Plastic Wrap in the citrus tut. GeminiS Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 That looks like Clouds and Dents to me. Quote My DA
Goonfella Posted December 7, 2008 Author Posted December 7, 2008 That`s what I thought but the effect is slightly different. I think clouds>dents>heightmap is the nearest I`ll get to what I`m after though. Thanks. Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
KJslove1994 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Where did you find the Height field plugin? When I searched it pointed me to the Normal map, but the link is broken. Quote
Curmudgeon Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I got something close with clouds, dents and pixelate Quote
Goonfella Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Where did you find the Height field plugin? When I searched it pointed me to the Normal map, but the link is broken. I got it from here - viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2973 Don`t use the links at the top of the page though. Scroll down to the bottom and the downloadable zip file should be there.I think it`s a really handy plug in. @ GeminiS - I used your idea in the end for the glass, clouds>dents. Thanks. You can see how I got on in my gallery (P7). Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
