goldenberry
Sorry for the confusing title I couldn't come up with a better way to word it, here is an image of what I'm talking about. I don't want the transparency to be moved with my rectangle select. In ms paint there was an option for transparent selection that would do that but I can't find any equivalent here. If I try and make separate layers the bottom layer is still selected and moved with the top layer. Thank you for reading this.

Ego Eram Reputo
So why does this work? 1 hour ago, BoltBait said: Make your selection and press Ctrl+X This copies your selection to the clipboard and removes it from the active layer 1 hour ago, BoltBait said: Press Ctrl+Shift+V Pastes the selecton in the clipboard to a new layer 1 hour ago, BoltBait said: Move your selection around and when it's where you want it, press Ctrl+M As this is a new layer, when you move the selection around, it doesn't overwrite the pixels in the original layer. Ctrl + M merges the new layer into the original one. A great answer from @BoltBait. Cheers to @toe_head2001 for the new key decorations! Tactilis
12 minutes ago, goldenberry said: I will have to practice it to memorize it If you look at the menus you will see all the above shortcut keys listed. If you routinely use these, editing the image as described will become second nature (and fast). Edit menu: Cut Ctrl +X Copy Ctrl +C Paste Ctrl +V Paste into New Layer Ctrl+Shift +V Layers menu: Merge Layer Down Ctrl+M (merges the active layer down) Image menu: Flatten Ctrl+Shift +F (merges all layers down) You can learn much more by reading the excellent paint.net Documentation. Click the Help icon top right or press F1 The more you explore, the more proficient you'll become.
