What is the cleanest way to remove an object from a fairly uniform background?

  1. Use the magic wand to select the gray background. Adjust the hardness so that all of the background is selected.
  2. Invert the selection with Ctrl + I
  3. Press Delete on your keyboard (not Backspace)

I don't want the object to just disappear though, I want its former place to become like the background. Had the background been same color I could just paint it with brush, but there is a slight gradient.

Then don't Invert the selection - just select the image (it must be above the background) and hit delete.

I only named it background, it's not actually a 2nd layer, I need to create the background in its place so it wouldn't be visible that it has been added. I found this guide on youtube, it looks good enough, though maybe there is perhaps something better?

Clone Stamp works well on the image that you posted.
