  1. Obviously I have no stats on this, but if the rules are too long, users may just decide to post anyway and hope their thread isn't locked, or not post at all (third-last paragraph). Also, once the rules are short enough, they could be displayed on the registration page instead of the current "forum terms & rules", assuming IPB provides a way to do this.
  2. Go to your effects/filetypes folder (here's how to find it) and delete any you don't need. Be sure to leave any common DLLs (e.g. SBCommon.dll, Pyrochild.effects.required.dll) behind unless you're removing all of an author's plugins.
  3. It seems like the last thread didn't go very far. This time, here are some more precise suggestions to make the rules slightly more readable (and less intimidating) by making existing rules more concise. I think Rule 6 should briefly explain the importance of using descriptive thread titles in questions, rather than going on to give a lot of examples and advice regarding email subject titles. Similarly, rule 7 would be much easier to read as:
  4. From my understanding he wants to create a grid and "snap" objects into place. If so, there's no good way to do this, and since effects can only access the current layer it probably isn't possible to write one to achieve this if your objects are on separate layers. Align Object provides some basic positioning features.
  5. Use the PSD plugin. Most image editors can open the files (or have plugins that can). I have a list of Paint.NET alternatives other than the obvious ones here.
  6. The rule states that you can bump your thread once after 24 hours and only if it has no replies. Some people post replies to their Pictorium threads with new pictures instead of editing the original post, which also brings it to the top.
  7. Double-click the layer it's on. To draw a translucent object, click the "more" button in the colour window and adjust the opacity.
  8. box.net is quite good. Failing that, MediaFire isn't great, but doesn't force you to wait 45 seconds to download a file.
  9. There are both Effects and FileTypes folders in my plugin pack. Make sure you put the animated image DLL from the FileTypes folder in the Paint.NET FileTypes folder. Rename the animated GIF to have the extension AGIF. Also, if you want to reduce the file size of the resulting animation, I suggest running it through this utility.
  10. I'm not sure whether this is what you're looking for, but there's already a utility to export layers to individual files.
  11. Assuming you don't actually want to publish the layers, just save as PNG and undo. If you do want to publish the layers, see if the site supports PSD, which Paint.NET has a plugin for. Or upload it to another site such as MediaFire (doesn't require registration) or box.net (better) and link to it.
  12. Paint.NET doesn't currently support adjustment layers.
  13. 99KB is how much space the image takes up in RAM. The image you save will (usually) be compressed (either lossy or lossless) and thus be smaller. If you're saving as JPEG you can drag the slider to vary the amount of compression (not size). I don't know of a way to see the final file size as you resize an image (other than using another program).
  14. There's an online tool that can do it.
  15. I'm guessing you saw a screenshot of someone using v3.5.6 with lots of effects. If so, they're probably plugins. Try searching for them.
  16. @smonfor: There isn't. If you rename the brush when rotating the thumbnail will be updated.

  17. Hi - i'm guessing you made the custom brush mini plugin? Is there anyway to add an easy way to rotate the brushes in the plugin? So far the only way I've found is to rotate the image in the custom brush folder and then go back to the plugin, find the one I rotated (difficult since names don't appear and thumbnail doesn't change) and then use it. Thanks

  18. The chequerboard represents transparency. If you save the image as a PNG, that part of the image will become transparent: If you want a solid white background, add a layer underneath and fill it with white. You can't change the shape of the eraser, but you can create a custom shape to erase once using the selection tools.
