  1. 32 bit allows you to preserve alpha. 24 bit may results in smaller files, as I see it. Does anybody (maybe somebody who knows something about the code) know wich HDP-value gives you similar results in quality to JPEG-value 96 or 97? I know that this won't be lossless, but e.g. pictures of a camera in JPEG are already not lossless and I just hope to reduce the filesize. Last but not least, this plugin expires September 1st (by the way, for what reason?), so I hope it will be updated.
  2. Hollander, you should mind sharing the source. There are a lot of good programmers here, they will find the problem.
  3. I used the plugin with several pics and it didn't crashed. I have PDN 3.08 (latest stable build). In my opinion the effect is very nice and can produce some good results. Thanks and credits for this, hollander . One thing for me to ask: Can it be moved to the submenu "Color"? That would make sense and it wouldn't take space directly in "effects", which is near to explode (and I don't use all of the plugins out there).
  4. Thank you, MKT, thank you very much. Shape3D is just wonderful work.
  5. Thank you very much. Too bad, at the moment the sensless submenus are the most disturbing thing by far (as Paint.Net has almost 0 disturbing things )and I don't think every developer will change them. But I see that it can't be done and I understand that this isn't Rick's fault. Maybe there should be an announcement or something in the plugin forum so everybody gets informed about the new submenu-system.
  6. Can the final version please be changed to move e.g. "blur"-submenu-plugins to the new "SubmenuNames.Blurs"? I know the roadmap and that there may be a new plugin-system within this year (?), but meanwhile it would be a really great fix to remove the senseless "doubled" submenus. At the moment, they are a disadvantage when you use an other language than English.
  7. Loading and editing a whole movie in the way of Paint.Net would crash your PC. However, this would be a total different application and would not having anything to do wih Paint.Net. Besides that, what sense would it make? I don't think it would improve Star Wars or Lord of the Rings or whatever when there would be black lines, circles or gradients... Wow, many "woulds"...
  8. I tested the new version for a couple of days (thanks for sharing, last but not least) and to be honest, I prefer your first (?) version much more. I know it is work in progress, but the first version was more impressive (in my eyes). Maybe the solution would be to combine the old and the new version? Still I would be very happy to see a plugin to render some of your beautiful stars, MadJik. I tried it myself using the code you've provided, but results were more then poor (consequence of the fact I have no knowledge of this matter...) It would not be so much work for you, as you have the code, superior knowledge and resources I don't have. And I believe it would be easier than these lens flare project.
  9. As it is a Windows/Firefix error, I have no idea why Rick should spent time on the problem. The workaround can be found using Google and isn't that hard to do. What I would like to see is that the help could be downloaded seperatly. It wouldn't be too much work to zip the online help and provide a downoad on the homepage.
  10. BoltBait, have you seen my request above? I think the idea is not that stupid. At least I would be glad to see Halo in "Blurs" (or if the code would be made public). Halo is a nice effect but not well-known I think... I will not spam again ("double-request", I mean).
  11. Ghost Ranger, I have had a similar problem and got the second error every time I launched an internet shortcut. I have the following fix for all users with the same problem, please see here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_error ... _-_Firefox This workaraound is for Firefox, I don't know if it works for IE/Opera. However, it is not an error of PDN. Also I want to say that I like the actual PDN icons. They are already clean and I see no sense in changing icons every time the operating system style changes, as I see no sense in changig the UI every time office gets new interfaces.
  12. I cannot imagine Paint.Net without MadJik. Full credits for another wonderful plugin, and many thanks for sharing.
  13. Imageshack says there would be no pic when you try to access it. Reupload?
  14. First of all, you may have a look here: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=5463 For the rest, I have to tell you I have no knowledge of programming. As I see the effects work on Windows, it is obviosly possible to execute them on Windows, but I don't know if it can actually implemented in PDN. To use PERL as a native language for plugins PDN would need to be re-written as whole I think, and that would be insane. Maybe there is the ability to develope a very complex plugin which can be loaded from PDN, execute the PERL-code and reproduce the effect in PDN. I remeber a plugin that used something called GREYCstoration (http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=3799) that is very complex in my eyes, but I don't know if this can help you further. Also, I consider the developement of this plugin as ceased. Another possibillity would be to list which expression in PERL corresponds with which C#-expression and then translate the public lens flare script. I have no idea if this can be done. However, this would be a job for pros. For real pros. I consider less than five people on this forum to be able to do that and I don't think they have the time. For the moment you shoud see PDN is totally free, dooesn't use large HDD space and has a very clean user interface (compared to GIMP and many others) and also provides some stunning effects. You can't get everything at the moment. Let's see what future brings, I am convinced PDN will not get worse.
  15. @ Bobofthedead: Originally coming from linux, GIMP uses totally different languages than PDN (C#), so I think it is perhaps not impossible, but very hard to compile GIMP's effects for PDN. You would have to translate all the code into the corresponding C#-functions, I think. A while ago we had a little discussion about that to make a lens flare plugin using "GIMP-code" but it was said that it hardly could done. As long as you have GIMP together with PDN, you may export your files to PSD and open them in GIMP. There is a plugin for PDN to im-/export as PSD, and GIMP shuld be able to open and save in PSD, too. I agree totally that it would be fantastic to use GIMP's effects in PDN, but I think this is far, far away... Also I think PDN has some nice effects that GIMP hasn't, and the number is growing.
  16. Namida_22, also keep in mind that png is in most of the cases better than bmp. Jpeg is only good for the web and is never lossless. Use bmp for compatibility issues with some apps and jpeg to show pics in the internet (e.g. on this forum) (but sometimes png outperforms jpeg in this usage too). Don't save your artwork in jpeg, there will be errors in your pic everytime.
  17. I don't think so. If there would be a way, I may die due to shame.
  18. File -> Save as Edit: The entire help file can be found at: Edit by Rick: Way wrong URL. You listed the help file for 2.6. http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/en/ Edit: Sorry Rick. I haven't PDN on this PC and did a web search. Will never happen again. Thanks for the fast correction, I'm sorry for the inconvienience.
  19. First of all, take five minutes to check if you have installed it correctly. Just use BoltBait's instructions found here: http://boltbait.googlepages.com/install Remember you have to restart PDN before the effect appears. I had no problem when I tested it and it was directly in my effects menue (so don't search submenues).
  20. BoltBait, a tutorial remembered me on your Halo effect and now I wanted to ask you if you can move it to "Blur" (as you list it in this category on your googlepage). An more interesting option would be to merge Halo with Feather by enhancing Feather with the option to use the primary color instead of transparency (maybe by a checkbox). I have no knowledge about coding and don't know how much work this would be or if this is possible anyway. Regardless, thanks in advance.
  21. You're just right. When the first plugins were published, we hadn't such discussions, and today all developers are forced to put their effects in submenues. That's simply unfair. So I'll shut up. Last thing for me to say at this place: I really like the plugin, as I like your other plugins, pyrochild, and I hope to see more such good work by you. Thanks.
  22. Deep inside me there is the strong fear that you get 30 submenues when clicking "effects". When a new submenue is created, all developers would have the rebuid their plugins, otherwise it would be pointless (e.g. drop shadow would remain where it is) and I don't believe everybody would do this. As I said, it is enough just making the code public, so everyone can put it in a category due to his desires. This would not create new work for the devolepers, and there would not be long discussions about what the plugin actually does. For example, I don't think rendering an outline blurs the picture in the sense of the blur-menue. Also I hope that Rick will implement a user-specific plugin-system within this year, making discussions about new submenues anachronistic.
