In my opinion paint.net is a great program, but it needs a few things. Not the program itself but the website. First of all we are all professional graphikers and if we tried to create a good design for the home page i think that we would come up with something good. i am ready to provide you with a script and some designs. Secondly you need to change the forum because your forum is done in forumer.com which causes laughter for me i think that you need a more professional forum. I am ready to help

This has been said before, but Rick likes it as it is.

the thing is that it doesn't help at all. on the other hand it prevents people from downloading it. My friends are good website designers and when they saw the website and the forum, They said that "who would be able to do a good program when they can not do a web site" , i understand that this is just easy to do and all but it is only enough to mention that it is for an open source program and most hosts will give a free account and most design groups will provide free designs. And i can get these people for you. And the design of the homepage can be done with paint.net and boltbaints html auditor which will be a demonstration of your force and i think that this will provide you with more people.

The forum is staying as-is because I don't want to spend time maintaining it. By having it on forumer.com it takes away almost all of the maintenance and management burden. Which gives me more time to work on Paint.NET, do other work, drink beer, hang out with girls, etc.

The home page is fine, I'm not changing it. It works fine and I am able to maintain it myself with the tools that I want. The only thing that really needs some lovin' is the Features page, since those screenshots are from v2.5.

I get people offering to redo it every month or so, either through e-mail or via this forum here. I've declined every single offer, and I really wish people would stop.

It's FREEWARE.

More than that IT'S GREAT FREEWARE. It speaks for itself. I know people who have never logged on to the message board who use PDN.

I know about 3 people who fit this description. I would make fair bet that if you take the number of people on this board and double it, you would probably get close to the number of people who use PDN.

Which means, it's doing pretty good on it's own. Why publicize?

anim8or doesn't, gimp doesn't. It's a waste of time to publisize.

I mean, if you want to put a link to PDN on your own websites, or in your sig for other message boards, I am sure that would be fine, but, I don't see a need to "campaign". What would be the point? No one makes money off of it.

I think it's great that you are eager to help in the process, but, really the only "help" needed is for some good tutorials, and maybe some plugins to be designed, and of course, answer questions when folks are stuck on how to do something.

Actually, believe it or not... just posting to the forum is helpful, as it bumps keywords for google.

Paint.NET was downloaded almost 85,000 times last week (and that's just from BetaNews).)

I think there are more than 6904(Total Forum Members x2) users of PDN...

I'm not sure a "PR campaign" is the most cost effective way to do things. I could spend $1000 on some Google or Live Search ads, but in the end I believe it'd be either a wash or a waste.

There's actually been a good amount of publicity around Paint.NET recently anyway from the likes of LifeHacker, WebUser (UK), PC World (US), C|Net, and Download.com. Check this thread for various links, http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2893

Also, having monthly updates keeps a lot of recurring attention on the project. Every time a new feature is added, someone finds it really useful and keeps the program on their hard drive. They then recommend it to more people, etc. etc. It's a very good positive reinforcement cycle.

And why pay for advertising when I can make a blog post about the new release and literally have it echo'd all over the web? http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch ... &scoring=d

In the end, "PR campaigns" are soooo 20th century :) Like sagedavis said, if you want to help Paint.NET then the best thing you can do is be active on this forum: help newbies, write good tutorials, etc. Recommend it to friends, etc.

And yeah, there are quite a few more than 6,904 users of Paint.NET ... !

Well, I'm a good web designer, and I know I sure as bacon can't program a C# app. Seriously, they're two completely different skills. The current PDN site isn't flashy, but it's well organized and easy to read. That alone makes it better than 80% of the rest of the internet.

Still, I'd be happy to do a redesign of the PDN si...

I didn't even notice that quote of Lukedad's that CMD had just pasted.

I am NOT being mean at all, but, I am assuming that you are probably a young guy, and that your friends are also, because, this statement is something that I personally would have made when I was like... oh... 19 or 20.

Being a pro web designer myself with a pretty big U.S.A based company, and knowing many people "in the biz" as they say. I know far too many people who can program in C, C++, even Assembly, who know squat about web design.

Knowing or not knowing one, has nothing to do with the other. It's pretty much like saying that Snickers can't make a good candy bar because they can't build a website.

In this case however, this isn't snickers, it's a FREE PROGRAM... and if someone judges the software by the website (read, book by the cover), then it's their loss for not downloading the software. No money exchanged means, no skin off anyone's hide.

Besides, I am of two minds. I mean, I tell my friends about PDN, but, there is so much that I can do with it, I sometimes wish I would keep my big mouth shut, so that I can show off what I can do with it, and they don't have access to the tool... LOL...

I know, I know, I am so shamefull.

First of all there is no such thing as a graphiker, it's graphics artist or similar.

Second, I doubt a lot of us make a living out of this. I don't. Just for... painting things and fun.

Oh and to transfer the forum all you need is to back up the mysql database save the backup and upload it somewhere else.

Theres 1 really easy way to fix the deal with the forum.
