Ash
This tutorial is available as a PDF. Click here to view or download it EDIT: Use the Anti-Alias option in the Shape3D plugin. Put a check mark on it, Set to level 3 ~ 4 would be enough. This will make your "3d" object look much much better! Use this option for the last step as selecting it will make rendering much slower ================================================================== This is my 3rd tut for the Shape3d Plugin. And this time we will give the "Cylinder" funtion a try Some have asked me about how to make the stem from my Jack O Lantern/Pumpkin. This tut will allow you to make Wood, tree trunks, Stems and such. And aims to let you see how to "skin" the Cylinder. Ok, Lets start. 800x600 image. 1. Clouds (default setting) 2. Dents (Stretch tab: Am=6, An=-90. The rest is default setting) 3. Relief 2~3 times (default setting) Give different angle a try too see what it can do. Other angles might fit what you need to do more. 4. Motion blur (A=-90, D=30, C=checked) After motion blur, you can do one more relief if you feel like. 5. Shape3d (Settings as in image below) Note: Make sure "cylinder end---top---Ball" is checked. Why? Because some time the trunks/stems do not have Clean cuts. So this gives it a more Natural look. (Trust me ) But NOT too much (I used 0.16) Unless what you want IS a clean cut object. You can also colorize your object at this step. Many methods can do this, Curves, Color filter, Color tint..... 6. Adjust :Colors: as needed. I used Brightness/Contrast (B=40, C=60) 7. Distort, Move, Scale and Rotate to your liking and as needed. Done!! And we are done with the 3 basic (easy level) shapes for Shape3D with these 3 tuts. I will be doing some medium tuts later on. Hope you now have a better understanding for this useful plugin. davidtayhs
Ash, thanks for another great shape3D tutorial! Love the result especially after the distortion - should put these pics together with the tutorial.
Ash
You're quite welcome & Thanks. 1st post edited. I didn't wanna put the after distort cuz, I think readers should try their own way to distort. The different things they make might need different distorts. And the best way is for them to try. mustang maverick
Thanks Ash! There is no reason to be ignorant of how to skin a sphere, cylinder, or a cube using S3D! Thanks for all your help! Thanks! There are quite a bit more settings for shape3d to use texture, I've only cover 1 method for each shape. Like for spheres, I only made a tut for full sphere map. With so many controls, S3D does look a bit scary for new comers :? @oma: I like the barrel and the tree. leaves might need more work. mustang maverick
True. With a bit of experience and help from your wonderful tutorials intimidation levels should ease up a bit. Only to bypass confindence levels on the rise.

" agree agree agree I think the leaves need a lot of work but I've not had a chance to go look at some trees closely. If the humidity dials down a few notches I just might take a walk to the park. I've never really drawen a tree before other than those stick trunks round lollipop heads. chow Oma editwell went for quick walk did quick concept drawing needs much work but there is vast improvment in leaves posted in the pictorium. http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewt ... 6924#66924 Quote  My Deviant Art Gallery Oma's Paint.Net gallery

Project Spartan
Nice Tut Ash, once again, I know a lot more about Shape 3D now. But there is something else: [a little off topic] Did you create the saber tooth tiger you have as your avatar? Or did you take an already existing image, and edit it?
