Can't install the program due to an error message

When I try to install paint.net I get an error. "There was an unhandled exception." System Component Model Win32 Exception (0x80004005) install failed for Universal C Runtime (KB2999226). WU_E_NOT APPLICABLE.

Any ideas? I'm using Windows 8.1. I don't have the Windows April 2014 Update installed which I know you have to have installed to correctly install some software.

Seems like you answered your own question...

Install the available Windows Updates, and then try again.

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

Even better, install Windows 10/11

The next version of Paint.NET (5.0) will not work on Windows 8.1 at all, so you're already running on borrowed time
