How do you remove the background from a PNG image?

So, I am trying to add a PNG image to another image but the problem is, when I add it, it adds the background of the PNG as well and I cannot guess where to save it. Can anyone help me? Is there anyway to remove the background? Thanks

There are a number of ways to remove backgrounds.

 

The best way will depend on the specific image that you are working with.

 

If you can post the image we will be better able to give good advice.

Your image already has a transparent background.

So, just paste it into a new layer above the image that you want to add it to.

What do you mean by that?

What do you want in the background?  First you said that you wanted to remove it, and then you said it can't be transparent. So what else could you possibly have in the background?

If you are referring to the checkered pattern, it cannot be removed. It is only a indicator that the image is transparent.

If you don't want to see the transparency reduce the size of the canvas to the size of your object.

If you paste directly onto your image, the transparency will also paste.

 

Paste into a new layer above your image.

What everyone is trying to say is this:

 

When pasting your transparent image into your existing image, use Ctrl-Shift-V

instead of simply Ctrl-V
