  1. You're entitled to that, but Vern's have more texture in them and are therefore more realistic. Its one thing to make a cube on an graphic manipulating program, but it is another to step it forward and enhance the program's ability. While Ash's was indeed good, Vern's was beyond what can easily be achieved and thus I conclude that Vern's, not Ash's, cubes are better. Thats the beauty of ash's cube, its not easy, but its easier than I thought it was for one part of its construction. making a smooth transparent layer convincing like ash did isnt easy especially with the other walls and corners behind it. I dont mean to seem ungrateful because its rare when I get that kind of support here, really this is one of a few times and I have never recieved this strong of an accolade from a peer here. I just think that you may be missing the context of ash's cube or if you arent Then the comparison of illusory reflective qualities of either cube has revealed your preference. And having one preference swayed from a great pixel manipulator like ash is really a gracious compliment.
  2. Depends on the context; ash's are clean lined and very tidy where as mine have a very random element in shading. I like ash's because of the clean lines. I like mine due to the "random" shading. My whole point was not to compete but to ad a variant that illuminates The internalization of the variant on a transparent cube. Ash was sucessful in the decpetion of a singularly patterned wall , if you examine the connecting points of the cube walls they lie about obvious constrution methods by insinuation. That is good art. When I could take a lengthy route to reproduce the exact piece that is simpler than it looks. In that conntext Ash is the clear winner. So in either context there is a win in the representation. Thanks for the vote though, I must admit there is a shred of ego that thoroughly enjoyed that.
  3. This is very good, is it all done in Paint.Net ? If so please tell me how you did it 8) Im working on a castle and this looks like it would come in very handy ! I think its a photo manipulated with oil painting. One vote for a tutorial! spoils the challenge of trying to figure it out. 8) That cube is the result of a lot of practice and all that trial and error cant be shared in a tut, and its where the real lesson lies. My guess is that the main parts were made individually and I dont think it was a short process. What gives it away is the edges or corners of the cube. This was likely assembled similar to the cube with different pics on each side. quick attempt. Copy ashes cube into PDN and really look at the highlights , free your mind and let it pick up the different aspects he used in shading and create your own vision of a cube based on a likeness. I wouldnt mind knowing the shape technique but the glass texture I feel is better as ashes signiture technique.
  4. Drink more beer It's a Stargate! How'd you do that? exactly what I was thinking. pretty cool replacement for the stargate portal interior.
  5. original recent avatar comission. I didnt draw it I just redrew and then screwed it up.
  6. That is really nice. You should tut that axe.,,,, maybe , if youd like that is.
  7. a secret found out, Nooooooo! You may as well know that using drop shadows as a gradient woks too and when mixed with blur and curves can produce some interesting metal textures. (pouts and walks away...." it was only a matter of time")
  8. lol dewd, I have been posting for a while and get low feedback so dont get mushy just keep evolving. sorry man that was funny.
  9. I don't mind taking a look, if that's really what you want, and see if there's anything I can do. I dont see that it should be a problem to open source a syringe its 2 pdn files, want them zipped?
  10. You just answered the question right there. And the 2nd one looks even better. Everyone has their own method, You have to take care of you own baby/art Don't get frustrated, sometime if you are tired of this piece, just work on something else and come back with a fresh mind later. This little diddy was frustrating because of the complexity of meeting the angles. I kept having to resize my canvas and shift layers individually. Good experiment with a 3d shape but definitely not easy. anyway that PDN file offer stands. Not that you need it to do your own, actually having one made from scratch by you would be cool. 8)
  11. Reflections on highly polished surfaces are rarely one dimensional . There is always a shadow and a reflection and often a compound reflection. that shadow reflection is simply too bold. I dont know if you realize it but there is a randomness to it all like shine and refraction in glass. There is never a consistent output from the input unless the environment is the exact same every day. I just figured out what your line meant,,,,, and your observation isnt accurate as the shadow reflection is a Gblurred syringe image and is 100% consistent to basic shape. What makes it seem off is that I rotated it to emulate shadow reflection as that would actually appear to "V" out from the needle tip. The wet floor effect plugin really is a detriment to the thumb grip on the stem. I really feel as though the plunger in the tube is a bigger deal for its inaccuracy, best that it does is approximate , figuring out how to do all of it was time consuming and tedious.
  12. The angle is all roughly the same I used the same settings for all of it. As far as blurry goes , man this was a PITA, Ill put the effort into syringe 2 if I make another. actually soz it could use some marble on the surface of the metal, and numers for doseage and then te blue from the bottle.. why dont I give you the PDN ash and you make it whatever you want, I am frustrated by it at this point.
  13. Reflection and shadow of the syringe need a bit work, Other than that, very nice. And you are missing something for the metal/crome. I'll let you think about it before I give the answer what in your opinion does it lack?
  14. Some one requested that I try a syringe a couple weeks ago, I have been a bit busy. This stuff is really difficult to do well. I wasnt as patient with it as I could have been.
