A new bit. Not the most polished, but I like it.

Thanks chad and Possum @Lance: Sounds good. I never really liked playing with Shape 3D, but I think I may just have to give it a try. @Possum: Just so you know, I've been using quite a bit of Soften Portrait lately. It does wonders with the contrast

Just wanted to break up the 3D a bit. A bit of a "meh" design but whatever. ...and speaking of 3D, I should have a tutorial up soon enough. Anyways, here you go:

Thanks guys, I try @0(-.-)0: It's funny that you say that, as I actually had 3D stacks in mind since I started doing this. I also thought of doing a simple pyramid type thing (great minds think alike I suppose ). I think I'll get started on that. And thank you

Thanks Bjarni, chad A little free publicity for PDN
  7. Layers (menu at top) -> Import From File... -> choose the image you want as your background. Then, with the layer with the imported image selected, click Move Layer Down  (the downward pointing blue arrow in the Layers window) until that layer is behind the image you want it to be behind.
  8. Not one for renders, but I'd say you're doing a good job with them pipp. Very simple with mine. avatar signature

Actually, the only reason that there's no visible aliasing is because I resized the image to fit the forums better If you view the full size, you'll see some minor aliasing along the edges of the top of the letters. This is due to the subtle white outline I placed over the surface. Without it, the image is perfectly AA'd. @oma: I would love to do a tutorial, but the work that goes into my 3D is ridiculously meticulous. That's not saying a tutorial would be out of my grasp or a chore, but it would be quite complicated, atleast in my opinion. Again, that's not a no, but more of a if im bored and feel like doing a detailed tutorial to pass time, why not. EDIT: Or maybe I'm just being lazy about it Also, I'm going through semester exams this week and a tutorial of this magnitude would probably take some time. High school, terrible isn't it?
  10. Thank you, thank you Also, if there's a rule about posting image after image in an umbrella thread, please let me know. I feel like I'm treating this as my own personal gallery.

  12. And I know that "damn" isn't the worst word in the world, but please remember that this is a family friendly forum. Just a little reminder

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it @Lance: Haha, I knew that would get to some people. I actually put "Studios" on top because I thought it looked better, the piece is called Boom Studios. I intended for people to read the large "Boom" first and the tiny "Studios" second. @oma: I actually would've done a lot more with the font but I got lazy. Procrastination does something good for once, eh? @soka: The jaggies where actually caused by my method of "3D-ification". Had this been a 3D piece, there would have been jaggies everywhere. Everywhere. To see the logo "in action", check out Boom Studios]. Anyone with a dA account can make one of these cool portfolios. I'm still messing around with mine, so it's not exactly super awesome.

You guys are too kind, really. Thanks. Unfortunately, I'm a bit 3D'd out right now so I decided to turn Boom into more of a logo concept type of thing. After experimenting a bit I came up with this. Much less flashy than my 3D work, but I think it looks alright (click for full size).
  15. @Yellowman: Awesome. Very realistic imo. I vote tutorial. @Angel: Very "digital". An interesting look. @Kemaru: My new wallpaper Thanks for the comments people, I do appreciate them.
  16. An article on FreewareGenius about a program that will batch-install several programs of your choosing for you. Useful if you've had to format your computer, just got a new one, etc. According to FreewareGenius, Ninite (the name of the program) "only supports a limited number of programs at present (66) but does offer some of the more popular and better known software...The software featured includes popular titles such as Firefox, Opera, , Pidgin, Thunderbird, iTunes, KMPlayer, Aimp, Paint.NET, GIMP, Irfanview, Open Office...". That is the best idea in the history of forever. Ever. I cannot believe I did not think of that sooner. Thank you so so much. I owe you 48.5 cans of . And to barbieq and butterfly, thank you. I probably don't deserve as much praise
  18. Shiny, I like it Love that silvery look to it, how'd you do that? About the aliasing, I believe it is due to my use of the Rotate/Zoom tool. I rotate the image to get the perspective I want, and what I think that does is that it builds up the anti-aliasing along certain edges, depending on the angle I set. Edit: Also new image

New image. And please excuse the double post. It's my gallery and I'm adding an image, so I assume that's allowed, yes?

Thank you for the praise. I'm the same way, I love the gloss. And for those concerned about the aliasing in my 3D stuff, I think I've figured it out. I use the Rotate/Zoom tool to get the perspective I want, and apparently doing so causes the transparent pixels of any anti-aliasing I have to build up along certain edges, depending on the angle I set.

actually no. Don't use feather, alpha masking is better. Great works first image could of used some alpha masking though but overall great images. aguba search for the alpha mask import plugin by illnab. Also there are some tuts on pdn fanatics about alpha masking. Click the pdn fanatics logo in my sig to go check em out. Actually, the alpha mask import plugin is probably the one plugin I use the most. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's causing all those jaggies. I'm really thinking it's the way I do the 3D. Thanks Lance, and I actually did think it won the WOTW (I know it won something ). Hopefully you're right about the font. The font sizes I've been using are relatively small however, so I'm not sure if thats the case.

Ugh, I know, the aliasing. The thing is, I prefer the minor aliasing (what I consider minor) to using Feather, blurs, etc. I can't stand the blurry edge that they give. The moment that an anti-aliasing plugin is developed that doesn't create this blurry halo-effect around my project is the moment Paint.NET will be perfect in my eyes. Also, the terrible quality on Windows Glass and Energy is just because I resized them. I'm not exactly sure what happened there.

Yep, a gallery. Coming back from lurker status, I might as well, right? For some of you more experienced PDN users, hopefully you remember me All 100% Paint.NET of course. 24. Looks like you got a job with Rolex's advertising crew. Awesome job, looks pretty darn real Edit: Looks a lot like this one
  25. Thank you very much And no, I duplicate the original layer several times, moving each a pixel down from the last. What I used to do was motion blur the image at a 90 degree angle and then either repeatedly duplicate it or use the Transparency adjustment to make it opaque, but in my experience this just generally led to more aliasing. I will try out that method however. If it works, I owe you one . And I can't wait to see some of that glass work you mentioned .
