File MODE and DPI count CHANGED by Paint.net
BoltBait replied to MaxMuhlin's topic in Troubleshooting & Bug Reports
In the saving dialog box, change the image type from "Auto-detect" to 32-bit. If that doesn't work, please post an image (family friendly, sample only) that you don't like and one that you do. One of our filetype experts will examine them and give you some help. It would be best to zip those images up before attaching so the forum doesn't mess with the formatting. -
Feature Request: Better Hotkeys

This is currently used for Repeat last Effect. Good luck changing that. EVERYONE hates it when you change key bindings. -
Feature Request: Better Hotkeys
BoltBait replied to WickedPixie's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Currently, Delete key removes all pixels from the selection (i.e. turns all pixels transparent). Backspace key fills the selection with the primary color. Shift-Backspace fills the selection with the secondary color. -
How do i make text visible on Paint.net
BoltBait replied to Pharaoh's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Try pressing Ctrl+D before selecting the text tool. -
First, I would recommend installing my plugin pack, found here: https://forums.getpaint.net/BoltBaitPluginPack I think the function you're looking for is called Feather. After installing my plugin pack... 1) Select the top layer with the smaller graphic on it. 2) Press Ctrl+D to remove any active selection you might have 3) Run Effects > Object > Feather (Adjust to taste)

Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020... it is time to upgrade your OS... even if that means buying a new computer.

OK, so now you know that your video drivers are the problem. You really don't want to leave your setting on "CPU" as this runs really slowly compared to a "Performance" video card. What you need to do next is research how to get updated drivers for your video card. (Sorry, can't help you there.) Once you update your video card drivers, try putting your settings back to "Performance" to see if the updated drivers fixes the problem. If this doesn't work, you can always change your settings back to "CPU". But, getting updated drivers is worth the trouble.

In that screenshot, you'll see a drop-down list "Performance (AMD Radeon RX 6600)"... change that to "CPU" to see if your problem goes away. If it goes away, you know that the problem is with your graphics driver--you should upgrade your graphics driver to fix the problem. If it does NOT go away, switch the setting back to "Performance" and we look for another cause of the problem.

Sounds like you have an existing paint.net installation that has become broken. Please use this utility to remove the broken installation: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed Afterwards, you should be able to install paint.net anew.

Ah, that's what I suspected. You see, Feather is really only useful at 0, or 1 setting for feathering. Beyond that it is more of a "Soften Edges" plugin--it uses a different algorithm. And, the settings in that range are different between the two plugins. If you want to use it to soften edges, you'll need to adjust your settings for the effect you desire. You see, the old algorithm (47) just blurred the image making the object slightly bigger. I always hated that. So, I rewrote the algorithm (67) so that it only makes the object smaller by softening the edges. You'll probably just need to apply less of the effect.

Installing plugins - Paid for version
BoltBait replied to shimerin's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I recommend starting with a plugin pack that comes with an installer. It will create the proper directories for you. For example: https://forums.getpaint.net/BoltBaitPluginPack -

You should be able to render the same images as before. You might have to adjust the settings a little bit. -
