Realistic Frames?

Recommended Posts

I've posted here before.  I said I used to use PhotoBucket for editing but they "updated" which was a downgrade.  All their previous editing abilities I was very used to using are gone.  Professional looking frames included.  This is not just placing a colorful line around the edge of a picture.  It was making it look like there was a real frame around it.  Though the option for a regular box or poster frame was there as well and you used to be able size them with a slider.  Examples:

realistic frame (the one i'm most interested in getting)

poster frame

stacked several frames

fade frame at edges on picture

The first one is the one I am most in pursuit of.  Maybe I should not have even shown the others they may be a distraction.  I really want to be able to frame without copy and paste layering, mathing out resizing canvas, etc etc work work work, a real looking frame.  Are there any pluggins for Paint.net like that?  Note I've googled already and only found simple boxing in a pic plugs for Paint.net.  Maybe you all know something's better out there?

I can do all of these in pdn.  The first one using Shape 3D to make each piece of wood, many layers and precise editing. The good thing is you only have to make one side for frames and then just duplicate 3 more times and shrink, move and cut each one to fit in it's place. Look at my window in my gallery and you'll see.  The second one just add another layer under your poster layer. Increase canvas size to be bigger than your poster that fits your need. Then move your poster layer up to where you want it,outline object with white color to the width you desire. Add the white text under it and done, merge all layers. In the third and fourth you shrink the picture to about 90% and add a black background layer behind it. In the third one duplicate the picture layer and on the bottom one try zoom blur deluxe and play with adjustments. On the fourth one just go to the fade edge in Photo and fade until it looks good, vignette will also do a good job. The first one would probably take a half hour but the rest 15 minutes tops.

I am a frame-aholic and make all kinds, but sometimes simple is better to not take away from the picture. I have done many cool frames for family and friend pictures that I gave to them. With a little imagination you can make theme frames, flowers for wedding pictures, hearts for sweethearts, candy canes for Christmas, etc, etc.  Check out my gallery and you will see a few and get an idea.  You can also save the frames you make as a pdn file before merging for using again or changing it. Hope this helps.   ;)

Twenty minutes to make this one. Not to fancy, but with more time it could be.  All pdn,I can use it again and also adjust width and length to fit any size rectangle picture.   ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Here is one I made for a wedding using flowers for the border. I took many pictures with one camera and video with another, then made a video for them. It was a mixture of stills and video, section of stills, video, stills, video, etc. with music. I took pictures of the flowers all over the place also to make frames and things out of. Then at my trusty pdn computer I cut all the flowers out of the pictures and saved them as separate pdn files so I could mix match, trim, etc. I made about 8 different styles of frames and saved them as pdn files with a transparent background. Then I took all 98 of the pictures going into the video and added a frame to each one. Here is an example of one of them, note the two flowers in the bottom corners with the little bead things, lol, that was difficult and lines had to be added.

I am pretty sure that between Yellowman & Welshy there is a tute for something like the wooden frame. Welshy has a couple of wood tutes I am sure. Yellowman has a tute that makes things wavy. That is as much as my poor brain can recall after a 10 hour day full of hissy fits :D

Do what I do in Sony Vegas, Google pictures in frames http://goo.gl/jV85i and save some that you like.

Insert the frame into PDN and insert your picture, done!

Here is a video I made using a massive HD picture next to a swimming pool and then added my video

in the frame panning both to full screen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVt26dRuK_s

Hope this helps

So you used someone else's frame in a video promoting an airline?  Hmmm.

There are many ways in pdn to make frames. There are two plugins; Borders and Shapes by pyrochild and Frames by MadJik that could have done something similar to Boda's with a little expertise.

Free they are, lol.   :)   I prefer to make my own in PDN still, but a good idea for people who don't.

Another example of what pdn and you can make.
