HankP Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Is there a keystroke command (individual key or something in conjunction with control or alt or win or something) to toggle on-the-fly between the two Sampling modes (Layer and Image), as opposed to having to move your Pointer to the Toolbar every time you want to toggle back and forth? By analogy, something like hitting "S" repeatedly to toggle amongst the 4 Selection modes or hitting "O" on-the-fly to toggle between Lines and Shapes? If not, the "A" key seems to be available.😁 Yes, I have checked the documentation, and (no) I did not find the answer there. Of course, I may be blind. Thx Quote
Tactilis Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I assume you are referring to the Color Picker. Press Ctrl while using that tool to change on the fly from Sampling Layer to Sampling Image. See the Tip here https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ColorPicker.html If, instead, you are referring to the other tools (Magic Wand, Paint Bucket) that have a Sampling Layer/Image control, then there is no shortcut key to change the mode. NB The 'A' key is not available. It is used by the Shapes Tool. See the Tip here https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ShapeTools.html 1 Quote

Ego Eram Reputo Posted February 16 Posted February 16 ...another tip: holding down the CTRL key forces sample-from-Image, but the toolbar does not change with the key. So it looks like Layer is still selected (if you look carefully there is a modifier applied to the cursor when Ctrl is held down) Quote ebook: Mastering Paint.NET | resources: Plugin Index | Stereogram Tut | proud supporter of Codelab plugins: EER's Plugin Pack | Planetoid | StickMan | WhichSymbol+ | Dr Scott's Markup Renderer | CSV Filetype | dwarf horde plugins: Plugin Browser | ShapeMaker

I mostly find myself wanting to do this toggle on Fill (Paintbucket). I am (was) familiar with using Ctrl on ColorPicker. I use that quite a lot, actually. Bummer that there is no shortcut for that, but muchas gracias for the info! Quote

That would align both tools. Not a bad suggestion! I've filed an issue on Github so the request doesn't get lost. Note that holding down Ctrl to change the Sampling mode from Layer to Image on the fly cannot be used for Magic Wand (the other tool that has Layer/Image sampling) since Ctrl is used for on the fly application of the Add and Invert selection modes. Additional request: Even if on the fly use of Ctrl is added for Paint Bucket, I would really like to see the ability to set the Sampling mode using a key; i.e. to toggle the setting as though you had clicked the control in the toolbar. 1 Quote
