How to select many areas on an image before applying effect and apply outside selection/s

Recommended Posts

For example if i want to apply an effect (blacknwhite, blurs, saturation etc) outside some small lasso selected areas, it would be easier to just select the areas first and then press a button to activate 'apply outside selection/s' that makes effects  only apply outside the selected areas, instead of having to do it one by one by putting them on another layer.

That button is Ctrl-I

What that does is invert your selection.

It is impossible for an effect to change pixels that aren't selected. So, simply invert your selection, run the effect, then you can invert your selection again to select the originally selected pixels.
