That doesn't happen for me. When i select something, for example square or circular, my CPU usage remains under 10% according to Windows Task Manager. However, when i select something that is a very complicated selection, such as selecting all the noise when adding noise to a plain background, the CPU usage rises to above 90% until de-selected.

Confirmed. It slows down the machine very noticeably when the selection is complicated.

happens to me too, using latest version, but this was happening with previous versions too

not 100%. but it was utilizing a lot of CPU power ... the moment I deselected, it went to normal

im also getting this, running vista business, 2gb ram, Core 2 E4500

i have taken a screenshot, of my desktop, and pasted in into a layer (document only contains that layer) and then pressed ctrl + a.

hammering away at my poor cpu...
