GingerOverlord
Hi, How do I remove the 'grid' that is displayed whenever a new layer is created? I just require a white background but there doesn't appear to be any setting to change this. So annoying. Cheers, GingerOverlord
Eli
Reding the documentation for the Tool bar may help you. Or perhaps you mean the checkerboard that is displayed everytime you add a new layer. Edited September 17, 2016 by Eli
GingerOverlord
Yes, it's the checkerboard. Any way to remove it?
dipstick
The "Checkerboard" pattern is the universal symbol for Alpha Channel transparency. There is no need to remove even if you could. If you don't like looking at it, add a colored layer below.
GingerOverlord
Cheers, Dipstick! I'll give it a go
GingerOverlord
Oh, another thing... While working on my layers... At the moment I'm using the right-click to erase. I realise that this isn't erasing but colouring over my work with white (which is then visible on other layers). Instead of creating another layer or using white to erase, is there a way to create a secondary colour that acts like an erase? How would I go about doing this? Cheers. Eli
You are painting with the secondary color. If you want to erase then choose the Eraser tool.
GingerOverlord
I want to erase with the Right Mouse button, I don't want to switch to the erase tool.
Eli
That does not work with Paint.Net. Edited September 17, 2016 by Eli See next post.

Eli
Red Ochre, I tried all the modes except "overwrite" before I posted above.
Red ochre
Not a problem Eli! (It's an easily overlooked feature. Personally I just use the eraser tool!) Maximilian
Red, you're so much into fine technique! This trick looks so groovy that I think I won't be switching to the eraser tool all that frequently And also thanks to GingerOverlord for asking the question that led to the groovy solution
GingerOverlord
Excellent! Cheers, Red! That's exactly the effect I was looking for Maximilian, you're welcome See, Eli? A good, positive answer that didn't require any sarcasm. Regards, GingerOverlord
Eli
GingerOverlord, there was not sarcasm intended when I directed you toward the documentation area. I did a search and the possible answers to your questions were there . I am glad Red Ochre came to the rescue it is not the first time I say something and turns out not to be true (and that is a very well known fact ) .
