  1. The keyboard shortcut S toggles the four selection tools. If only rectangles are removed, then perhaps the Rectangle Select tool is active instead of the Magic Wand. ==================================== Also, the Magic Wand tolerance can be adjusted, using the slider in the toolbar. http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/327/magicwandzxc01.png If these suggestions don't solve the problem, then posting a link to the actual image that you are working on may be helpful.

  4. Congratulations to our winners ! And thanks to all who entered and all who voted in AOTW #11. I have received the new theme by PM from j.d.melek. AOTW #12 will be posted shortly.
  5. What you have described is exactly the way things are. Simply make it your normal practice to paste into a new layer.
  6. Place your text, arrows, boxes, etc. on their own new (transparent) layers above the white background layer. The white won't be affected if all work is done on the upper layers.
  7. Open a new file in Paint.NET. Bring in whatever image you want as background: Layers > Import From File... Bring in the first fruit graphic: Layers > Import From File... Position it with the Move Selected Pixels tool. Repeat as needed. ====================================== If the graphic comes with an undesired white background, Magic Wand the white and press Delete on the keyboard, then use Feather Object or AA's Assistant to smooth the edges. ====================================== If the gray-and-white checkerboard is visible it is an indication of transparency. It is not a part of the image, and won't show in a viewer or if posted online.
  8. With the new face on it's own layer, use radial gradient in transparency mode with the right mouse button as suggested in this post:
  9. If I understand correctly, tutorial methods like this don't do what you want. If possible, upload one of these graphics from your friend to: http://imageshack.us/ Post the Direct Link URL here. Explain what you want to do, using the image as an example.
  10. If I were doing one of these I would definitely make use of layers.
  11. Save as PNG filetype. JPEG won't preserve transparency.
  12. They are tracing the outline of the flower closely, at least initially. The cursor for the Lasso Select tool is not registering properly in the video capture, so it is misleading.
  13. Lasso Select. With Selection Mode set to Replace.
  14. My guess is that it is the program. I recall a previous, similar thread where the design software showed alpha as black in one mode, but rendered it correctly in a different mode. The transparency showed properly on the finished web page. Again, just my best guess.
  15. The purple isn't present in the .png gradient. Where does the purple first show up?
  16. Try downloading the zip again using a different browser. Also, read through the posts in the plugin's thread about some of the problems and solutions others have had around this issue.
  17. Yes, that is the first of the various selections of the background. Additional overlapping selections are blurred at low radius. If too heavy a blur is applied at one time to a single selection, the border of the selection will be visible. Also, areas of the background that are more distant can be given more blurring than nearer parts of the background. Click on the Lasso Select icon, then in the toolbar, change Selection Mode to Add (union). Zoom in and make a series of smaller overlapping lasso selections.
  18. The video shows the Lasso Select tool being used to make various selections of the background. The selections have blur applied to them. The flower in the foreground remains always unselected, so it never gets blurred.
  19. The crashlog refers to Paint.NET v3.5.1. The current version is 3.5.5. http://www.dotpdn.com/downloads/pdn.html ============================= Have you tried running the MS Installer Clean Up Utility to eliminate all traces of v3.5.1 before installing the current version?
  20. This may be helpful: http://www.windows7download.com/win7-pos-multiple-image-printing-wizard/qyzypqmi.html
  21. You could do your blurring in PhotoImpact, then remove the white background in Paint.NET. Magic Wand the white, then press Delete.
  22. Unfortunately, Subtle Effect is no longer compatible with the current version of Paint.NET. 1 of 1 -------------- File: C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects\SubtleEffect.dll Effect Name: EffectCaller.EffectPlugin Full error message: This plugin is incompatible with this version of Paint.NET.
