  1. @ Xander_Lyon, Much improved. I like the wires sparking in the lower right corner. The laser blasts look good as well except the one suspended above the main image. It looks a little out of place. I also like the idea of the panel smashed in. If you want, try this tut and it might be useful in giving the smashed panel a more realistic look by adding some wrinkles to the metal. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=27775&hilit=waving+flag Try looking through the text tuts, I know there is one in there that will help with the painted on look you are trying to get.

You're right about that other laser blast. I was trying to suggest different weapon types were hitting the hull. Instead, that blast just looks like a shadow, so I thought I could turn it into the shadow of whatever's attacking . . . but a better burn would likely make more sense. :) It's funny you showed me that flag tutorial. That's exactly what I used to give the panel a smashed in look. I'm not sure how to tweak it further to give a better busted in look. The key to the displacement map seems to be how much you blur the black and white parts on top of the greyscale map. Is that what you used on your curtains? I didn't think you could be that detailed and get such a subtle effect.

I wondered how you got the metal to look crushed in. Try using thinner lines, maybe that will give you more effect. Or combine the displacement with the bulge plugin or the power stretch plug-in.

No, the cloth behind the wall objects was made from a texture, I think it was a bedsheet or maybe a tablecloth. That does give me an idea though, I wonder what a texture would look like combined with the displacement? Or maybe if the texture was used as the displacement map? Hmmm? Well that would be just crazy ! I need to give that a try tonight.

  4. @ BoltBait I appreciate the opportunity to have the honor of being in the Galleria. I hope that this image rises to the quality of the others found there.

The only issue I see now is that some of the reflections are slightly wrong. Remember, a reflection should flow in a direct line between the object and the observer's eye. So the reflection of the vase (on the right) on the floor should be skewed slightly to the left. Also, the bottom corners of the new window frame should flow in the same direction as the floor tiles.

Other than those issues... Looks awesome!

Thanks ! I'll take a look at it tomorrow. I start my vacation on Saturday (Woo Hoo !). Whew ! I just had a little scare. I went to open the image and got a nasty error about the file being corrupt because it had been saved with a newer version. I was working on a new abstract at the time that was very render heavy and that must have been the problem. I lost the abstract, but the image opened after I closed PdN and restarted. GASP !

    Thanks for the suggestion !

  8. Congrats GF ! I saw your piece in the Galleria. Simply one of the best spacescapes ever.

The double bass image is simply amazing. The woodgrain is superb once again. A nice addition to your guitars. Maybe a violin (or fiddle as we call them here in Indiana) or maybe a mandolin? I'm a bluegrass fan if you can't tell.

  12. @Possum - Wooow, man, excellent work. Even the darkening of the sky and highlighting of the moon helped a lot. Your vases in the back look like Oblivion or Dark Messiah items. Your left red spider is actually touching the crystal ball now with all the juicy reflections therein. I think my only critique is a little nitpicky. The lines on your backwall that now give it perspective don't seem to match the angle of the floor or anything else. Of course your curtain wrinkles still blow me away.

Oblivion or Dark Messiah? I'm not sure what that is. Sounds cool though. You will never believe what they are made from. I might tell everyone later  I was very happy with the way the moon turned out against the darker sky, I was afraid that it would look flat. I was also happy that the replacement spider turned out like it did. The reflections from that spider was done in four parts to get it on the table and the base of the ball and the ball itself. I'm still not sure I got it right because I couldn't get any spider to stay still long enough to act as a model. No I don't think you are being "nitpicky", that is actually something I didn't think about. Now that I look at it again, I think you're right. The lines are too straight. There should be an angle that is opposite (maybe ?) of that of the floor. Hmmm, I think I need to take a look at some of the halls at my office building for how to get a better perspective. I work in a gigantic 158 year old building. It is very cool with lots of marble and granite and arched ceilings.
