  1. Keep in mind the shadow too. Your current spider piece has a shadow just on the wall.. which isn't right. the shadow should go from the bottom of each legs, and towards the wall. once it meets the wall it should distort so that the shadow climbs up. You'd have to do this manually like the reflection to get a good result. ;)

Hope the pic explains it better

  3. You've used the gradient tool in the tut, so its obvious that you're not using a 2.xx version. the gradient tool was introduced in v3.0.

I like the fact that you want to teach people on how to use Paint.NET, and this is a well written tutorial, and you've clear spent some time on it. However, imo, its too simple.. you've basically done a tut on how to use the gradient tool, which can be clearly learnt in the Help webpages, so theres no need for a tut on the forum on the gradient tool. ;)

There are many tutorial like this, in this forum.

But in my tutorials, i never use any effect non-default.It is the difference.

If there are many tutorials like this, then why make another?

And.. almost all tutorials on the forum don't use an effect with default settings. So it isn't the difference.

PS i'm not trying to bite in anyway or form, and if i have i'm sorry, but i'm just making a point here. . .

  4. I suggest using Displacement, instead of the water reflection plugin to create a more realistic reflection that suits the puddle. Use search to d/l the displacement plugin and take a look at the tut too, and you should sort of figure out how to work the plugin. :)

  6. I don't want to make Paint.Net a Photoshop clone

and you want all those things? LOL.

PDN is designed to be easy to use at home for those people who like to do a fair bit of image editing to their photos etc. and dont wanna buy PS or anyother complicated image software. The tools and effects that come natively with PDN are enough to do some major things. Plugins just help do more or these things easier.

Like Ash said, get to grips with PDN first. It does have to power to do awesome things.. just take a look at Ash's work..

  8. Hmmm.. perspective is odd in this one too.

    Its solvable for checkers though.

Render a square checkerboard. On a new layer using the paintbrush, draw where you want the pieces to be. Then on another new layer add symbols or w/e. Then on the checkerboard layer use Rotate/Zoom to get it into perspective. Then apply the same transformation to the other layers with the pieces and symbols. Use outline object on the pieces layer to make them more 3d like. Move them up a few pixels so it looks right. :)

Awesome work though. Loving the engrave effect on the pieces.

P.S. the board itself is a bit odd though. See the far left end where it gets cut off and doesn't end at a square. :P

    KIU.

  10. To answer your question, no, its not possible without distorting the image. Paint.NET isn't a 3D program and the image is a picture, not a 3D model that you can look at in a 3D program, so you wouldn't be able to rotate it without distorting. Even Photoshop can't do what you wish to do. ;)

You best bets would be to find a better picture, try and download a 3D model of a camera and open it with a 3D program and image what the front would look like and try and make it yourself in PDN.

    Hope i helped. :)
