  1. Try the eraser instead of the paint brush. Or, set your paintbrush to overwrite blending mode (its on the toolbar, looks like a red and blue square).
  2. If you haven't backed up your computer in a while, I'd do that.
  3. Updated UI has been published... http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2580 Enjoy.
  4. I think my thread is getting jacked... Oh well. Time to "split" the thread into two parts. On to important business! I have updated the first post with a link to the Draw Shapes/Stars Plugin UI that I wrote. And the speed of line drawing has been GREATLY increased! Enjoy. http://boltbait.googlepages.com/shapes Source code coming soon... really...
  5. heh. Well, I won't be hiding it. It will be at http://www.BoltBait.com when CMD gives me the html/css files necessary to update my site. (oh, and before you ask, if CMD had wanted other people to see it, he would have posted a link in this thread.)
  6. I will be releasing an update to the Shapes effect plugin either later today or tomorrow.
  7. Thanks guys. CMD made me a very nice layout that I will be using.
  8. A good contrast usually works best. For example, a white background for a black object, etc.
  9. OK, the best thing to do in your case is to simply use the magic wand to select the red area and press the delete key. Play with the tolerance until you select just the area you want when you click the red area. I would guess around 20%. When you see the checkerboard pattern, you know that is the transparent area of your image. Save as GIF and you should be all set.
  10. Once you've removed the color, save in GIF format. That should do the trick.
  11. Yes that is correct OK, try this: In windows explorer, right-click on a dll file that isn't working and choose Properties from the menu that shows up. In the General tab of the properties box, look near the bottom for an "Unlock" button. Click it. Click OK to close the properties box. Repeat this for each dll that isn't working. Report your findings here.
  12. You see the dll files in there, but they don't show up in the menu? Is that right?
  13. http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1560 http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewt ... 3&start=20 Or, to make a shaded pencil sketch: Open a picture. Adjustments > Black and White Effects > Add noise... (64,0) Effects > Blurs > Motion Blur (45*, 10) Effects > Sharpen (20) Repeat the Sharpen at least 5 times.
  14. A good place to start is here: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1096 Be sure to read the entire thread. Then, go to the plugin forum and look at the source code for the plugins that other people have developed. Once you have tried to create your own plugin, post any questions you might have and I'm sure one of the plugin developers on this forum will help you. Finally, when you are ready to move up from codelab, read this: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2618
  15. Use a thicker line. The arrow head is scaled with the line thickness. I don't really have any more control over the arrow head size than that. Sorry.
  16. NOTE: This functionality has been included in Paint.NET version 3.07. Do NOT download this effect. Upgrade your Paint.NET instead! Arrow Effect Until Paint.NET has the ability to draw lines with arrow heads, I have created this effect. The Idea I really wrote this as a way to learn how to draw anti-aliased lines. If you find it useful, great. Just be aware, Rick has stated that Paint.NET will have the ability to draw arrows with the next release (3.x) which will be out in a month (or two at the latest). I know the UI is less then optimal, but I think you'll get used to it (at least until Paint.NET has a REAL arrow tool). This draws lines inside of the current selection using the Primary color and current paint brush width. The thicker the Paint Brush, the better the line looks... try 7 or 8. It will draw the lines solid, dashed, or dotted. It will draw lines using anti-aliasing, or not, your choice. The Effect DLL You can download the precompiled effect DLL here: Arrows.dll Just drop this file in your c:/program files/Paint.NET/effects directory and you should be all set. If you need help installing effects, read this page: http://boltbait.googlepages.com/install Instructions for Use 1. Use the color wheel to select your primary color. This is what this tool uses for the color of the arrow to draw. 2. Select the paint brush tool or the line drawing tool and change the brush width. 3. Using the rectangle select tool, draw a selection from the desired starting line point to the desired ending line point. 4. Click the Effects menu and choose Arrows... 5. Now you should be able to see the arrow. Adjust the settings on the dialog box for your desired arrow type and click OK to finalize the arrow. Source Code I will probably not publish this. But, not to worry, read this thread for all of my secrets: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2580 That's about it. This should get you through until the next release of Paint.NET. Enjoy. 8)
  17. Here is how to install effects that I create: http://boltbait.googlepages.com/install Sorry, I should have explained how to install it. Let me know if this clears things up for you. I put a post in the Plugin forum about this: http://paintdotnet.12.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=3409
  18. MadJik, haha, nice! But, not what I had in mind. I was wanting to see the blue liquid behind the chrome "grill" and the main content area would be black. I am curious to see what CMD comes up with. He told me that he would be showing me an example this week.
  19. Please remember, Paint.NET is a bitmap editor, not a vector graphic editor.
  20. When you Gaussian blur the layer, make sure nothing is selected. That should allow some of the white to cover the face. After you do that, duplicate the layer several times.
  21. Create a new layer. Select the eyes with the magic wand. Switch to the new layer and fill that selection with white. Repeat for the other eye. Select the new layer and Gaussian the layer ~6-8
  22. I really just wrote this as a learning tool. I wanted to learn how to draw lines that were anti-aliased. I'm surprised MadJik hasn't been bugging me with questions about how I was able to do it. (I will post up my source code some time next week. I'm working on other stuff first, though.)
