  1. Depending on your starting image you might get a better result using a different method for removing the background.

You can improve the image that you have by applying Gaussian blur at default, duplicating the layer twice, merging layers and running AA's Assistant plugin effect.

The remaining jaggy edges on the horizontal rotors  can be reduced by making a Rectangular selection around the parts of the rotor you want to smooth and using Motion blur.

  2. If you want to save only the selection for reuse then:

Edit > Copy Selection will save a selection.
Edit > Paste Selection will bring it back.

If you want to save for future sessions, fill the selection on a new layer.

You can then regain the selection with the Magic Wand.

  3. "Note
In the Windows Store version of paint.net, the directories for plugins and Shapes are different. These locations need to be created manually.

First navigate to your Documents folder (this may be translated to your system language). In it, create a new folder called paint.net App Files

Then create three subfolders in the new folder. These should be called: Effects, FileTypes and Shapes.

The correct spelling and capitalization of these folder names is essential. There are six capital letters in the names of the four new folders."

This would be modeled after @illnab1024's Alpha Mask Import plugin, but leaner and more targeted.

    Mask loaded from clipboard only.

In the mask layer alpha and white would be treated the same.

By default the dark parts of the mask would reduce opacity in the work layer.

White and alpha in the mask would leave opacity unaffected in the work layer.

No filling/replacing alpha in the work layer.

Ideally would appear directly in the Effects menu, not in a sub-menu.

If anyone is willing to take on the project it will be greatly appreciated.🙂

  5. @welshblue is a talented artist, and posted helpful well organized tutorials.

His departure from the forum is a great loss in more ways than one.

Your "Welsh Goblets" look really good.

I think that the image could be improved if the shadows cast by the goblets were structured more like this.

(Left unblurred to emphasize the shape.)

As I get older I find it hard to see the dot half way up the side of a photo and want to make this bigger. It is the dot where you put the cursor to make the image bigger or smaller.

    That doesn't sound like Paint.net.

Maybe you mean the Zoom icon in the Tools window?

The Zoom icon in the Tools window can't be made larger.

You can zoom in and out using the mouse wheel with the Ctrl key held down.

Also, on the right side of the bottom toolbar there is a zoom slider.
