  1. I think the original examples must have been done all in separate layers as others here have suggested. If you look the shadows are not just overlapping shadows they seem to be using one of the blending modes (Multiply or Additive?). No doubt the experts here will correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK this can only be done if each element ie. each letter and its shadow, is in a separate layer.
  2. If it were me I'd just redo the orange text with a transparent background. So if you know the font and the method or plugin used to create the soft shadow/outline then it would likely give you a cleaner result than using a colour replacement plugin or Magic Wand. Using colour replacement the small 'shadowed' areas enclosed by the upper case A, B, P and R would be problematic I think. The rest should work by using either of the other methods suggested although, again, the shadows will be problematic and might be best if the 'phone and book were cut out as cleanly as possible and the shadows manually added behind in another layer.
  3. That's pretty much what I was going to suggest as when I tried Outline plugin even if I'd adjusted the tolerance of the Magic Wand it didn't lead to a clean enough cut out for my liking in this case so I was going to try that sort of thing ^ but thought it might be over-complicated for the OP so didn't post that idea. That Add Union function mentioned: is it a plugin or a setting, if the latter, where?
  4. Its on the home page main menu under Plugins - Publishing Only. I can understand why someone new might not understand that. "Publishing Only" is an irrelevance to most people and in a menu only serves to confuse, particularly those who's first language might not be English. IMHO, and with respect, such an important feature for PDN users should be listed just as Plugins and the plugin index/links prioritized. A better position for the Plugins menu entry would surely be right under the link to the official PDN web site at the top. Those are the two things new users will see first when this site loads.
  5. Although it does mention this in the PDF manuals which come with Shapemaker it might be useful to mention here that after you install it in the Effects folder it can be found when you launch PDN under the Effects menu in the new Advanced sub-menu entry
  6. Outline Object is in Bolltbait's plugin pack. Drop Shadow is in Kris Vandermotten's plugin pack. The reason I think you mention the feather icon is because in the PDN menu > Object menu Drop Shadow is alphabetically listed right above Boltbait's Feather Object. His Old Feather, in the same plugin pack, is also listed just above Outline Object and uses a very similar menu icon to Drop Shadow.
  7. You just write the text in a new layer above the background or background picture. Then use BoltBait's Outline Object plugin.
  8. Isn't there a plugin that can customise the radius of the rounded corners? I'd swear I saw a thread here somewhere a long time ago where a PDN user was either asking about that or suggesting it as a feature.
  9. That sounds like a trouble I've had when using an older browser version or some VPNs and proxy servers. Not on this web site though. However on other sites verification catchpas may simply not display or you get problems with it accepting your response/answers, just like those described by the OP.
  10. PDN "Layers" button > Rotate/Zoom menu > tick the Tiling box and adjust the Zoom slider down from 1.00. That can be done with the mouse wheel too.
  11. Thanks Pixey for that information. It made me look into the reason why Windows OS hide some fonts and it is simply because they may contain characters "......not designed for your input language settings..............only fonts that are designed for your language settings will be listed in your programs.". You learn something new every day. In Win7 and I'd assume Win10 too, but probably a different path, if you go to the Control Panel > Appearance > Fonts > Change Font Settings you can untick the entire hidden fonts option so they'll all appear.
  12. He should have just used "Open", at the top of the right click context menu. That should open any Zip/RAR archive in Windows Explorer with the contents visible and able to be copied elsewhere. I'm bothered about the OP's description of the options offered too. If its a Zip/RAR folder or any other folder there should be no Save or Save As option, only Copy or Cut. If the archived had been opened in Windows Explorer you'd have Copy To and Move To options instead. Can't work out what he is doing wrong, if anything; extracting the contents from a compressed folder is a very basic task and not that much to go wrong. I'd recommended installing 7Zip - if it is a Zip/RAR or other compressed archive using that from the context menu, instead of Open or Open with, should negate any possibility of user error.
  13. This is a bit rough and ready:- N Note, as said, the text should be in its own transparent background layer.
  14. You can stretch any font to fill a space quite easily without any plugins. Just make sure you use a separate, transparent layer for the text - draw a selection box around the text then use 'Move Selected Pixels' to adjust the size, stretch or compress it. It works best if you use an oversized font and compress it rather than use a smaller size font stretched. Letter uprights or cross pieces will compress in width/height with respect to the compression direction but if you keep the compression within certain limits it doesn't look offensive. You can also use Layer > Zoom if you do not want to mess around with changing font sizes but remember that is actually very easy to do and perhaps you're not aware of (I was not for a long time) : the font size box is interactive you can change the font size to almost anything. You are not just stuck with the default size options PDN displays Nice plugin though, hadn't come across that before; could be very useful. Thanks.
  15. Where did you download it from? If not ^ there then chances are it is the download source you used, although it is a very strange problem wherever you found it. Its not impossible that your anti-virus even deleted the content when you tried to open it if the download contained something dodgy.
  16. Ideally a tripod with a spirit level too. Many pro-tripod heads include ones for both horizontal and vertical axes.
  17. It would help if someone who actually knows how to do this explained or at least pointed the OP at a specific tutorial that will detail the method. The Circle Text plugin which you'd think would be suitable is actually not a good choice for the type of effect the OP wants to create. However the Circular Text plugin by Xod is much more like it and fairly easy to get regular text spacing and positioning for a text arc of any size and radius. https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/113205-circular-text/ But why is it still set up with a default circular text example which you have to go into the settings and null everything before you can start work on your own project?
  18. On my old monitor I can barely see anything but what may be white text on a slightly off white background. I opened it in PDN and used the Auto-Level tool and you can see it is text and there is some background tonal variation but the resolution is low and size so small the text is unreadable.
  19. I did not see the problem included elements within the icon detail itself, I thought it was just the outer circle. That's what happens when you have dodgy eyesight and as a consequence use a slightly lower than normal resolution (1152x864). Welshblue's solution does a very decent job but the eye area with its tighter curves whilst clearly better is not as good as the rest so stands out a bit. HyReZ's SVG, as you'd expect, is as good as it is ever likely to get.
  20. I've had this problem when creating skins for various games console dashboards where I've wanted a circular window cut out on top of another image underneath. The way I fudged this was to add a circular (background colour) cut out on top but with a slightly blurred edge. I then sandwich inbetween them a thin ring slightly smaller than the blurred edge in the icon's outer base colour (in that case ^^^^ dark blue) and blurred that slightly. Where the two blurred edges overlap it fills the jagged edges of outer circular edge of the icon 'reasonably' well. You're in effect graduating the outer icons colour into the background colour but the transparency of the blurring leaves the actual outer edge still predominant. The outer edge is not as crisp but sharpening or reducing or increasing the transparency of one of the blurred elements can help. It requires almost pixel level positioning adjustment and blur type and amount I can not even guess at - I just tried lots of combinations until it looked good, or at least better than it did in the original. There may well be layer blend options which will help but I'm nobody to advise on that. I'd also point out this was for display at relatively small size on a 720p, at most, TV screen.
  21. I sort of agree about this - not the default which I would not want be changed but when you're saving as a particular image file type regularly during a session if PDN remembered and used that chosen format as default, until manually changed, throughout the session it would be useful. I often find myself editing a set pictures for posting on a forum and each time you save one as a JPG or whatever you have to go through the PDN save format menu each time to select what you want. If it just remembered the last save format it would save time if nothing else.
  22. I don't think a square selection would be that useful in general. My typical use for the clone tool is to cover up erased image content or things like unwanted or badly positioned text on variable tone/coloured backgrounds. Overlapping circles can blend in almost seamlessly if the donor area is well chosen but I think with the straight lines of a square selection it would make that more difficult. However I can see how a square selection might have purpose if the area you were using it on had a regular pattern with straight lines too.
  23. I think Red ochre's plugin: Recolour Choice might be what you're looking for. https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/24584-recolour-choice/
  24. I tested the PDN files on the XP VM mentioned earlier, which is actually using PDN v3.5.11, and they all opened correctly too. Wherever that v3.36 came from it was clearly not from the official source and how that could have happened accidentally is a cause for concern is it not? A user download mistake IS the most likely thing but if EW is certain it was downloaded from what she thought was the official site then either the download was re-directed from somewhere else or there may be a spoof PDN download web site out there.
  25. A bit late to the party but I had no problems with opening them either (PDN 4.1.5). I'll test them on a WinXP VM running PDN v3.5.3 for personal interest as much as anything. Can anyone explain how using the official download web site PDN v3.36 could have been installed? Is it possible there was a download re-direction because her PC has some type of malware on it? If it were me I'd be doing a full set of anti-virus/malware/adware scans just to be sure.
