While learning, one thing that helped me was not to have any goals. Never say "I want this to be a tiger," but instead just play around. If you happen to make a tiger, awesome. But more likely you'll just discover some cool tricks, effects, etc. that you can use later. Once you've gotten some experience and added to your library of knowledge, that's when you start creating things with a clear goal in mind.
