leegold
Hi,Is there a way with the "fuzzy" magic wand selection ( eg. selection snaps to different polygons in an image by color along different color borders or pixel "qualities"). And, now with that irregular (usually irregular) selection make that selection a separate image file. But yet that new image will remain intact within it's original (parent) image.?For example get 50 (well 48 if it the continental USA) separate USA state JPEGs out of a well bordered and colored USA map but the whole map keeps it's original only now it's composed of separate JPEGS for each state. Is there a way? I need the map of the USA looking exactly like it should but, each state is a separate image file. Is that possible? Thanks Edited September 4, 2014 by leegold
Ego Eram Reputo
If you make your selection you can copy it with Ctrl + C then paste it into a new image with Ctrl + Alt + V. That will allow you to fiddle with the selection on another canvas and not affect the original image. I was hoping there was a way to keep the state images "locked"/fixed in place like the original map. But you're saying just manually reconstruct it with the new images. Which would work OK for my purposesIi guess. Thanks
Ego Eram Reputo
Aha. Yes you can do this. Try Ctrl + Shift + V (instead of Ctrl + Alt + V). This pastes the copied selection into a new layer in the current image. The positioning will be preserved - but you'll want to use Save As... and specify the PDN file format (to preserve the layer structure) the first time you save so you don't overwrite the original image file. If you repeat this for all the states, each layer should contain one state and the whole image should look the same. One caveat: you're using transparent areas in each layer to allow the other layers to show through. You need to make sure your exported files support transparency, so save them as PNG and not JPG. This plugin saves the layers in one go: Layer Saver Another thought, is this plugin any use: Cutter? leegold
Ok I did what you said as best I understand. I did two states as a test and saved it as a pdn. I reopened the pdn. So what I have is: an image that looks like the original map (that's good). In the layers "report window" there are 3 layers Background, Layer 2, and Layer3. Unchecking layer2 or layer3 I don't see any difference but unchecking background i now see the two layers representing the states as all white and the rest of the background is now a checkerboard pattern (the base native "no layer" background). Now unchecking layer 2 or 3 they are obviously the layers for the two states I saved. i then tried to save the whole thing as a png but paint.net siad it would "flatten it" and indeed the saved png is all one image. So let's just work with the two sates...what do I do to acheive separate image files for each state? thanks so much...
Ego Eram Reputo
Separate all the states to individual layers using the technique: 1. Select state 2. Copy selection (Ctrl + C) 3. Paste into new Layer (Ctrl+Shift + V) 4. Repeat from 1 until finished all states. 5. Save As... a PDN (not PNG) to preserve the layer structure. 6. Close paint.net 7. Download the Layer Saver program & unzip it if it's zipped. 8. Run the Layer Saver app & use it to navigate to the saved file. It will split the layers in the saved file to individual image files. If you can - specify PNG as the format (preserves transparency). 1 Quote ebook: Mastering Paint.NET | resources: Plugin Index | Stereogram Tut | proud supporter of Codelab plugins: EER's Plugin Pack | Planetoid | StickMan | WhichSymbol+ | Dr Scott's Markup Renderer | CSV Filetype | dwarf horde plugins: Plugin Browser | ShapeMaker

Ego Eram Reputo
Aha yes! But our original poster wants to preserve the location - which is why I suggested pasting into a new layer. BTW: nice plugin! I never liked the way the states were arranged anyways, Illinois should be farther south. 1 Quote Go out there and be amazing.
