Straight edges

Recommended Posts

Raster images are made up of a pixel grid, so things work rectangularly. You can't technically make a straight diagonal line here. HOWEVER, you can make an illusion of a straight edge through anti alias. There are several ways to do this, but here's what I recommend:

1. Install the http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?showtopic=7644'>Basic Antialias plugin

2. Put the second image (the one on top) on its own layer

3. Run Basic Antialias (Effects>Object>Basic Antialias)

Hmm, I have never used that plugin but your image now has like a drop shadow of black with white jagged lines showing.

I usually deal with jaggies this way;

1. Increase the image by 4 times the size I want the finished image to be.

2. Run a Gaussian Blur at default

or

Use BoltBait's Feather plugin (sorry you will have to search for it as I don't have time right now)

then use AA Assistant

You need to make sure that both your images are on their own layer & run the plugins on both.

I hope this makes sense in such a short time but I have to run...

I am not sure what method you have used to rotate the image, but:

1- Make the selection few pixels bigger than the photo from all sides (beyond the edges) then rotate using Move Selected Pixels :MoveTool:

2- Make sure the Quality of Move Selected Pixels  :MoveTool:  is set to Smooth not Pixelated

3- Try also the layer Rotate/Zoom in some cased it works well.

I used resize image and canvas size middle and I increase width and height for 2 pixels.
Than I rotated using Move Selected Pixels. I used smooth not pixelated.
I use this method to present covers of books.
Until now I have used vertical display, but I thought to do this little trick.
Unfortunately it did not work. Edges appear jagged.
I think it was too low resolution.
Thank you all, for your help.

Here's what I did..

1. Put picture that needs to rotate on it's own layer.

2. Rotate.

3. Run AA's_Assistant , Soften edges checked, Sharpness at 3.00, Gamma at 2.00, Offset at 1.00

4. Repeat using AA's_Assistant at those levels until edges are smooth.

This worked for me.

Increase the canvas size manually (ctrl+shift+r) before you rotate the image. Paint.net won't automatically change the canvas size for you.
