I often have something with a ton of layers, and I'm sick of pushing the move layer up/down buttons till my hands hurt just to bring them to the top or bottom. Usually the top. Instead of moving the layer all the way to where you need it, just click on the layer just under where you want the moving layer and hit the "new layer" button.
