JayStation3
Hi, I am new to the forums, but not new to Paint.net. I am trying to learn how to make a color picture into a black and white picture with one item in the picture in color. I have searched the web and the site and have not found any thing. I searched through the Plug ins section looking for some kind of "Mask" and I have no Idea what I am supposed to be looking for - can some one please give me a step by step or point me in the direction of where to find one specifically for Paint.net. I have found various things on google pertaining to Photoshop...but I prefer Paint over photoshop... thanks for any help in advance... Sarkut
You can duplicate the layer, turn the top layer black and white, then use the Eraser tool where you want the color to show through. After all erasing is done follow up with the Feather Object plugin effect to soften the erased edges. Edited September 18, 2010 by Sarkut

I will mess with it and see how it comes out...

Ego Eram Reputo
I'd follow Sarkut's third link first (Pleasantville tutorial). It makes the fourth link (a plugin that automates the Pleasantville effect) so much easier to understand. ebook: Mastering Paint.NET | resources: Plugin Index | Stereogram Tut | proud supporter of Codelab plugins: EER's Plugin Pack | Planetoid | StickMan | WhichSymbol+ | Dr Scott's Markup Renderer | CSV Filetype | dwarf horde plugins: Plugin Browser | ShapeMaker

HelloCactus
I was Googling this problem and came across this post. Just FYI I used the magic wand tool to select the colour (global flood) then 'invert selection' from the edit menu. Then as above adjust to B&W. Saves you having to lasoo pa'tna!
