Expanding The Canvas?

Here's what I want to do...

Let's say, I have a photograph whereby a person is situated too far to the edge, for my liking. I want to bring him or her closer to the middle of the photo.

Is there a way I can expand the canvas and then just Clone Stamp the background to make it appear as if he or she is standing 3/4 of the way in picture, as opposed to 4/4?

You mean you want to un-crop a photo? If so, that's not possible unless the area you want to expand is a texture-like area (e.g. sky).

Actually, I'm not too concerned about the background. I just want to bring the subject closer to the middle.

Okay, that sort of works. But it leaves behind a trail of white and grey squares.

Any way to avoid that?
