flip
How to Make Sexy Glossy Text You'll need the alpha mask plugin for this. 1. :AddNewLayer: Make a new layer and write some text in some color, it doesn't matter at this point. 2. Duplicate the layer and go to Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. (Or press Control + U.) Make the lightness all the way down to 0. Then use a transparent gradient (from the bottom to the top) to make it look something like this: 3. Duplicate the original text layer again and press Control + U and make the lightness all the way up. Use another transparent gradient (up to down) and make it look something like this: 4. Make another new layer and set your tolerance to about 70% and select the line tool. Make the brush width 2. Draw a line, curve it a bit, and fill the top in. 5. Go to that layer's options and make the opacity less. 6. Now, this part is a little tricky for some of you noobs. ( ) Here's where the alpha masking comes in. Go to your original text layer, press Control + A, then copy it. (Control + C) Make a new image with the size it's already in. (It should be the size of your original image.) Make a new layer, and paste. (Control + V) 7. On the background layer of your new image, fill it with black. Go to your new text layer and go to Hue/Saturation again and make it all white. 8. Flatten this image and save it as "mask.png" You'll need it in a sec, so remember where you put it. 9. Now, go back to your cool looking image. Go to the highlight layer; the one with all the white that's transparent. Use the alpha mask plugin, and load the "mask.png" Your image shouldn't look that different, unless you weren't on a white background. But, what you just did was very important. You took away all of the white that wasn't on the text, and if you didn't do that your text would look something like this: It might be hard to see, but the white highlight is around everything, and not just the text. So anyway, you can be done now, or you can change the color of stuff and spice it up. [/shimmy] XJ14 Gallery
