dragos240
Is paint.net still FOSS (Free and open source software)? I can't find the source anymore......
pyrochild
It's just FS now. It's free, but not open-source. Technically, it was never open-source, which allows community contribution, but "source-available." Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it! dragos240
Why did they remove the source? It's always so fun to customize software to your liking. It's what I love doing. Oh well, at least I can still compile the 3.0 build.
david.atwell
1) There is no "they." There's only one guy, Rick. 2) It was getting ridiculous how many people were stealing Paint.NET's source and making it available as their own work. 3) It's never been FOSS. It's always only ever been FS, Source-Available. Some losers ruined it for everyone. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Simon Brown
While the was a Mono port, AKAIK Rick has no problem with it. There have also been at least two people stealing the Paint.NET source and re-branding it as their own.

But yeah, there will be people that steal source code.
david.atwell
A great deal more (proportionately), though, with this program. Or so it seemed, at least. Rick finally just got fed up. Rick Brewster
I have no problem with the mono port, other than disappointment at its incompleteness. I only had them change the name to paint-mono to avoid any trademark issues.
