Pixey Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Sounds like you have an existing paint.net installation that has become broken. Please use this utility to remove the broken installation: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed Afterwards, you should be able to install paint.net anew. Disk4mat Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 If you are getting that error on the install then I might try clearing the windows Temp folder. Then start the install as an Admin. Right click, Run as Administrator.... You can also try downloading the latest version in case your installer has an issue or came from another source. https://github.com/paintdotnet/release/releases/download/v5.0.6/paint.net.5.0.6.install.anycpu.web.zip SetupDownloader The program failed to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the program. Quote
Rick Brewster Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 From what I understand, this type of error means that something with your .NET Framework installation, or its dependencies (like the Visual C++ Runtime, I think?) has become broken or corrupted. If you removed .NET, or anything related, you should un-remove it. You might also try going to "Add or remove programs" in Settings (use Start to search for it) and see if you can find a "repair" button. My reply was to direct you to @Rick Brewster's comment above regarding some other broken dependency on your PC. Quote
Hans Milling Posted October 25 Posted October 25 (edited) I have the same issue on a new Windows 11 where Paint.net has never been installed. A workarround is to not use the generic installer but click "Offline installers" and download the x64 version. That worked for me. My guess is that something that used to be part of the OS is not there any more after an update and the light weight web installer is still dependant on this. So either the light weight web installer should be updated to include this dependency or it should be changed to use some other library that is native to Windows 11. See my earlier reply in this thread here. Seems to happen if certain Windows components/features are uninstalled. Rick Brewster Posted November 18 Posted November 18 This is apparently caused by Sentinel One antivirus. They are looking into it. Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
