Help--adding text to image file

Recommended Posts

What exactly do you mean by "when I export the image to a program" ? What program are you exporting to, and what are actions are you performing that constitute "exporting" ?

And what is "the above problem"? (this is a new post, I don't know what you're referring to)

Brewster:

Sorry. I am entirely new to this whole website although I have been using Paint.NET for some time.

Problem:

1. I added some Text to an existing image using the Paint.NET program that I am rather comfortable with. It displayed nicely. I saved the new text-containing .tga image as INTRO.tga

2. I then tried to display that saved image in an existing program as a 'splash' screen opening for the program.

3 I had copied the text-containing saved *.tga INTRO image into the Data file of the program to replace the existing INTRO of the opening of the program. (Which INTRO I deleted from Data.) The text-containing image from Paint.NET should replace the uninteresting INTRO as the new opening of the program.

4. When the program actually opened the image was there just fine, but it did not have the Text which I had inserted into it via Paint.NET before saving it as a .tga file and then copying it into the Data file.

5. I hope this is clear.

I merely assumed that since others were having problems with text and image files this would be the proper place to insert my problem. I apologize if that is incorrect. And will happily move to a different place in this Help section if you tell where to copy it. I did review the FAQ areas but this seemed the most relevant.

Thanks, Archive1

At step 1 - did you flatten the image before saving?

It sounds like the program is loading the old image. I don't think Paint.NET is doing anything wrong here -- you can verify that the image you saved actually has the text by re-opening it (File -> Open Recent makes this super fast).

EE Reputo - Yes, it was flattened.

Rick Brewster: No, I'm not implying that Paint.NET is doing anything wrong...I suspect it is me. I saved the texted image to the Desktop and it opens correctly, ie, with the text in place. But when dragged from the Desktop and dropped into the Data file of the program, to replace the original (now deleted) INTRO of the program, the image is fine but the text is missing. And the *.tga image with text is the only similar one on the Desktop - I made sure to delete all other possibly conflicting or similar files.

I went to Paint/Open Recent and clicked on the text-containing image - and it opened properly. Now, there are maybe 8 images there from my repeated Saves and attempts to get the one I wanted to open in the proper place. But the correct one is there and it is the one I have dragged into the Data section of the program in which it should appear.

Dunno. Strange

I have wondered if one wants to place text onto an existing, imported image if it must be done as a new Layer...Layers are not something I have even started to attempt..

Tried to attach the image file here but it was too large.

Appreciate the attention.
