How do you make 3D'ish text and images? Examples inside

I want to know if there is a way with PDN to make the text like this... how it is pushed out to give it more character... I know this is a feature on PS but I didn't know if somebody created a plug-in like this or w/e. Parts to maily look at is the Symbol in the second one and the text in them both.

Use more descriptive titles. I would edit it quick or it will be locked.

Drop Shadow works well. Just apply a black drop shadow to the left, then a white one to the right.

EDIT: this is the result with the drop shadows.

Use the drop shadow plugin in one color in one direction and an opposite of the used color in the opposite direction. i.e. black going diagnally to the upper left and then white or gray in the lower right.
