  1. Yay! I'm starting this Graphics Art Independent study for school today! Anyone know of any good resources that might help?
  2. I'm sorry, but I'm getting very busy - so I'll have to give you my work and abandon the project. Feel free to use it if you want, you don't have to. But, good luck and hopefully the book project will get finished. Chapter 1 (General Introduction) • 1.1 Book Conventions • 1.2 About Digital Art (Background/History) • 1.3 About PDN ("What is it?"/Quick History) • 1.4 Versions of PDN 1 Introduction 1.1 About the Book (Conventions) There are a few conventions used in this book in order to convey information more clearly. If you see italics, it means that the italicized word is found in the glossary. 1.2 About the Program Paint.NET is a completely free, full-featured, graphics editing program made for the Microsoft Windows operating system. This program started as an undergraduate college senior design project and is maintained by some of the alumni of that project. The goal of this program was to be user-friendly and yet powerful. Paint.NET accomplishes this goal with its intuitive user interface, unlimited undo, special effects, layers, and many other features. The majority of Paint.NET was created using the C# programming language. The source code for Paint.NET is available under the terms of the MIT license (available at http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php) 1.2 Getting Started First off, Paint.NET has always been, and always will be a free program. If you bought it from somewhere, I suggest you try to get your money back.
  3. The website is not working for me... Help please. Sorry I was on a two week camp with no computer .
  4. UPDATE: The process has started. Visit http://pdnguide.zxq.net/ to register and get started in helping with the PDN book process.
  5. So how do Miguel and I get involved? We already sent in our requests.
  6. So is this project dead? Could at least a comprehensive PDF guide be written?
  7. My friend and I have proposed a digital art independent study for our school and the chances are that it will be accepted. Since we would be the first students to have a Digital Art independent study, we would pretty much be developing our own curriculum. Since we are a private school with limited funds, we will probably be using PDN. Any suggestions, resources, tips, etc, would be appreciated. Here is our current proposal: Graphic Design/Digital Art independent study Subjects studied: Logos Signature pictures Photo edits Avatars Computer freehand drawing Pixel images Desktop art Interfaces Credit: Art (fine art’s credit) Graded by: Mr. Bitikofer and Mrs. Bieber Intentions (goals): The purpose of a Graphics design class would be to gain experience and deepen learning in the digital arts field. By incorporating all of the above categories into the class, we would be able to further deepen our understanding of computer graphics. This will provide us with experience needed to, if decided upon, jump into a graphics design program in college and provide us with an education in fine arts. Along with creating artwork in the above mentioned areas, we would be actively developing a “curriculum” so that it would be possible to teach others. The “curriculum” would include background and introduction, designated sections (periods of time) for specific types of art, grading criteria for each category of digital art, and setting personal student goals or projects.
  8. Here is a semi-conversion of my fireworks signature to desktop wallpaper. I haven't had the chance to add more color/variety/brush layers like was suggested on my firework sig, but here it is: (Clickable thumb)
  9. So, what's happening? MikeRyan, you getting things organized? An update would be nice .
  10. What do you mean it needs more? More as in less blank space? Please clarify .
  11. Great job TopHat! I really like your sigs. Here is my first sig using custom brushes - tell me how you like or dislike it, and what I can do to improve:
  12. What do you mean? Any age can publish a book... At least in the U.S. But I'm not in the U.S. I'm in the U.K. Hmm, so you have an age limit? What age do you have to be before you can publish a book in the U.K.?

Very nice. All made in PDN? I really like your sigs . Keep it up!
  14. Wow! Those are great. All from scratch?? You have some amazing talent - keep it up!
  15. Great job! I've picked up most of these habits because I like to keep organized, but I still need to start doing layer descriptions .... Thanks Mike - Great guide!
  16. Now that I am getting slightly better at making art with PDN, I'm running into the same problem.. Where to place sig text that is easy to read and yet not distractive - especially on sigs. Any text placement tutorials would be appreciated. And to keep the flow of this Topic, here's another sig i made : And yes, keeping true to form, I horribly placed the text . Too bad I didn't saved the PDN file.
  17. @Taboo: PM MikeRyan that you are willing to help. He has kinda taken charge of organization of this project.
  18. Did you run the installers as Administrator? Or add PDN to the DEP exceptions list?
  19. Yeah, isn't that already Lionheart's?
  20. ... It's not ripping off other people's art. It's called conversion . Making a PS tutorial work for PDN.
  21. Good point. I hadn't really thought about how to get the group collaboration to work... I'm kinda short sighted. Thanks for putting me back on track Mike.
  22. PS book is not always made by Adobe, Many are from 3rd party company, or fans. Gimp books are the same way if I'm not mistaken. Making something doesn't always = the best at using it. I believe this is ture for many things in life, not just Art program. Sports car maker = best drivers? Best programer = best artist? Everybody is good for something. Exactly.. 'Nuff said in my opinion. Guess that means I'll continue working on my little PDF file... And Ash can.... hmmm... well... Ash can do what Ash does - make a better book in half the time. Oh well.. Maybe I'll actually learn something. *EDIT: Here is the newest doc and pdf version. http://mihd.net/wtqr34n - PDF version http://mihd.net/w406jk1 - Doc version Also, here is a WIP screenshot:
  23. Thanks. I already got it working thought. Did anyone check out the beginnings of the PDF file here: http://mihd.net/9um18n6 ? Any people with tutorials or guides that would like them included would be appreciate. You would of course get full credit.
