Old SOTW discussion thread *depricated*
FireFly replied to jake2k's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I think that would be cool, but maybe not a star... I made a "Forumer" forum and it is possible to add pictures above the avatar... that might work. You have to be a mod/ admin to add the pictures though, which means randoms can't copy and paste the image into their sig/ avatar. I also think that the winner should be able to decide what the next theme will be based on the themes named in this thread. -

@Yata - some of your gifs are VERY distracting and hurt your eyes if you stare too long -
Beginner.. where to start

The first tutorial I think I did was the 'Shwoop' one. Also try and do one of the fire tutorials to learn the magic of curves. -
Is Paint.net right for me?

Tablets are like those computers that are basically just a screen that you can write on using a special pen? -
Is Paint.net right for me?
FireFly replied to matthew82's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I tried to use GIMP a while ago before I ever even heard of Paint.NET and I could not get the hang of it. I was stuck trying to do simple things like draw lines and flood fill. Paint.NET is very easy to pick up and things are categorized very well for easy navigation. -

Paint.NET v3.07 Preview

The arrows and dashed lines is what I believe will be the most useful (for me). Lots of help when making up diagrams for science! -
They are very good buttons. I shall have to try this out some time. Also, I like the green theme you've got going.
-
Yeah, I said earlier, I could get the basic steps but the extended stuff was too complicated for me.
-
The weird extension is probably *.pdn - the Paint.NET file type. This is because of the two layers. If your having help finding the different buttons, you could try searching on the online help file. I would give you some more details but I'm rushing.

I have trouble expanding on the basic ideas in the tut. I see all of these great ones, then look at mine, which is very basic. That is one thing I need to work on

I know how you feel. Although since I started using Paint.NET my desktop has gone from having about 5 icons to now around 40! I just haven't been bothered cleaning it up lately. It's full of projects with Paint.NET and things for my new site. I even have a corner on my desktop for all of the awesome icons I have made with a plugin -
There isn't a plugin of that nature that I know about. I suggest that if you want to only stretch a certain bit, select it then stretch... but then the two edges don't meet together nicely. It's a tough thing. It would be a legendary plugin if you could stretch bits without losing the clean join of the edges.

Anti-aliasing...yes or no?
FireFly replied to The_Lionhearted's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Well I'm no expert and I'm not going to tell you how to use it, but I always keep it on for everything. I just like having nice, clean, smooth images without jagged edges. It's just me. I'm sure there are many things that aa should be turned off for but I don't (not now anyway). -
Haha, 2 days. I wouldn't even waste my time downloading it. But just looking at some of the features  WOW  . It is VERY impressive. They don't give you any kind of bargain though, it still costs $AUS 1,125 for the full package. Hmm... I could send my kids to school, or buy some software - hard decision.

feature request, preview image
FireFly replied to jake2k's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Yeah that feature would be good... It lets people like me no how bad their sigs are gonna look on the forums before they post them and embarrass themselves -

Very Nice X-360! . I really like all the colours. How'd you do it? You add a few more layers?

I need help with text please
FireFly replied to Theman442's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Yeah, I usually keep everything on a separate transparent layer when making anything, from sigs and avatars to wallpapers and icons. It works for me
