  1. Nah, David's in on it now, so I have someone to hold me accountable. I just have a few interesting ideas for Insanity, is all.
  2. I like the thought of insanity. I'll give you two guesses as to why.
  3. Guess what!? Results are up! Yeah, finally! I want to apologize to everyone for taking so long to get around to this. Life has a way of cropping up, and free time just disappears. To remedy this, I've asked fellow mod and previous SOTW helper david.atwell to help out more. A new account has been created named SOTW Guy, to which David and I will share access. All votes henceforth will be PM'd to SOTW Guy, so that whichever or us has the most free time can get to them to tally the votes when the time comes. Dave and I seem to have similar mannerisms, so the transition should be relatively smooth.
  4. The blue in the selection area is a tint fill to show you which area is selected. If you use a Selection tool, or a tool that manipulates the selection, the blue tint is visible. If you select a tool that manipulates or interacts with the pixels, like the Eyedropper or an Adjustment or Effect, the blue disappears so your view isn't occluded while you look at the pixels themselves. Basically, it's just a visual indicator to let you know if what you're about to do will be manipulating the selection or manipulating the pixels.
  5. I totally have to give a shout-out to PI+, and the sig and avatar based upon it. Love it, love it, love it. I love all your work, but the depth of detail in PI+ is stunning.
  6. I can reproduce this glitch running the latest Beta under Win XP. And yeah, you're right, that's probably not intentional.
  7. I remember that one... That was back when I was still able to compete in these things. I think I remember winning that one.
  8. You can use the Hue/Saturation adjustment under the Adjustments menu, or you could try painting in a solid color on a new layer, then changing the layer's blending mode (something like Overlay should work well). You can change the blending mode by double-clicking on the layer name, then changing the Mode drop-down under the Blending heading.
  9. I'm just wondering, but did you copy the advertisement code and custom Search Code from the Paint.NET homepage, user IDs and all?
  10. Actually, David, there's a difference between Alpha Masking and the "Image Masking" josch mentions. Check out the second link provided to get an idea of the desired effect. I've never actually seen this type of "masking" used before, and I'm baffled as to why one would want to show off an image with a section that was disrupted-but-restorable, but there are a lot of strange things I don't understand in this world, so who am I to decry it. I suppose that, for now, one could try using BoltBait's Steganography plugin, using the masked image as the main image and the unscrambled one as the hidden image, but I'm dubious as to the results.
  11. Hey tim, welcome to the forum. Please make sure you check out The Rules, specifically #17 which asks that you show off your work in The Pictorium. Thanks. Thread Closed
  12. @JS92: The IcoCur filetype plugin (mentioned as "the Plugin" in the original post) does indeed allow animated cursors to be created. @Ashje: I'm afraid I've never actually made animated cursors using the Paint.NET plugin, so I'm unable to be of much help. There have been others (such as usedHONDA) who have made animated cursor sets before, so perhaps one of them will happen along to answer your question more fully.
  13. Well, if you use the PSD file type plugin (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1238), you can select PSD from the Save As... menu in Paint.NET after you've made it, and the resultant file will be a PSD with your layers intact. The Text layers will be raster, which may give you away, but your layers will be there.
  14. It was still pretty nondescript. I've edited it for you to give you an idea of the type of thread titles we'd prefer. Generally, we go by the theory that people should be able to tell by the thread title what you're asking in the thread proper. "Plugin Request" could refer to just about anything, from artistic effects to distortion effects to file type plugins. Such a title means plugin authors have no idea whether or not they can help until they enter and read through the post. By adding a brief description of the type of plugin you're looking for to the title of the thread, you can target the post to the right geniuses.
  15. Oh, I so totally have to find time to enter this one. I'm a web designer by trade, and I ran out of time to enter the last competition, which was also web-based. I need to show the peoples that I still have got it. @R3VENGE: You've got some stair-stepping on your sheen. Have you tried making the lower curve with the Line/Curve tool? I see you've got a horizontal fade going on, but you could make the sheen solid white using the Rounded Rectangle for the top and the Line/Curve tool for the bottom curve, then use the Gradient tool in Alpha Blending mode to accomplish a similar effect.
  16. Please make sure you check out The Rules. Thread titles such as the one you have here are far too generic. "Question!" could refer to anything. Feel free to re-post your questions in a new thread with a more descriptive title. Thanks. Thread Closed
  17. When Curmudgeon pointed out that you had broken one of The Rules with your thread title, that was a clue to read The Rules and edit your title to fix it. I've edited it for you this time, because you're new and I'm a nice guy, but be warned that in the future, threads with nondescript titles will be closed.
  18. Back in '04, when it was the Year of the Monkey, JKR, a web cartoonist and comic artist, made a cartoon for his website, FredtheMonkey.com, in which Fred, the titular monkey, sang about it being the Year of the Monkey. This cartoon is linked by that text. So yeah, it was a joke. I apologize for any confusion it caused. The claim is recanted in the very next sentence, though, and the true Chinese zodiac for this year is given in very next paragraph. So, this is to say, "Keep reading, it's good for you!"
  19. Pictorium Suggestion Box / Discussion Thread You've got questions. We've got answers. Nothing's ever perfect. Odds are there will be questions or concerns regarding what we're doing here or how we're doing it. Nothing's ever perfect, but we'd like to get as close as we can, given our limitations (the whole human thing, you know). If you see something you think is odd, let us know. We can't guarantee your idea will be utilized, but we vow to consider every suggestion.
  20. All of the normal Forum Rules apply, plus: Pictorium Guidelines Follow these rules to help keep everything running smoothly. Your attention, if you please. Guidelines for Posting Images: - Images in this forum must be created or edited in Paint.NET. This is paramount; we are a Paint.NET forum, not a GIMP or Photoshop forum. Images may be edited using another program, but the main portion must have been done to them in Paint.NET. - All images must be hosted offsite. No uploads, please. We recommend Imgur or Postimages. - Preview images must be no larger than 800 x 800 pixels. You are welcome to link to a larger image if you like. - Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. No exceptions. If you claim to have created an image, and we discover that it was not yours, the image will be removed immediately and you will likely be banned on the spot. This does not mean that you cannot use stock images or source images, but you need to be careful not to represent someone else's work as your own. - Posting links to your source images is recommended; that way we'll be able to see how 1337 you really are. - By posting your images in the Pictorium, you give permission for your work to be displayed in The Galleria (assuming, of course, that someone nominates your image and it is accepted). - Do not post pictures on other people's threads. That's rude. If you want to post a picture on a thread other than your own, post it in one of the umbrella threads. Guidelines for Commenting: - Utilize constructive criticism. Being mean is not welcome or tolerated. - Try for criticism that's more helpful than "looks good" - say why. Say what works, say what can be improved. It'll make everyone's skills better (including yours)! - By the same token, keep the rules in mind. They will be enforced here just as much as anywhere else. - Do not post pictures on other people's threads. That's rude. If you want to post a picture on a thread other than your own, post it in one of the umbrella threads. Personal Thread Galleries - You may create one thread in this forum for display of your artwork. Subsequent threads will be deleted. - To that end, the "necroposting" rule is suspended in this forum... - ...however, the "bumping" rule is not. (See the rules if you're confused by this) - Anyone may post in a personal gallery; but when replying, please do not quote the image itself. Keep this in mind when you post, and we'll all be happier!
  21. This weeks theme, as chosen by last weeks winner -Expiration-, is Chinese New Year. The Winners: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Guess what!? I finally got around to tallying and posting the results! The results: 1st: Crimson (5 votes) 2nd: -Expiration- (4 votes) 3rd: Tendercrisp (2 votes) Both voting and participation were down for this one, with only 12 votes coming in, but we did get a clear top-3. I want to apologize to everyone for taking so long to get around to this. Life has a way of cropping up, and free time just disappears. To remedy this, I've asked fellow mod and previous SOTW helper david.atwell to help out more. A new account has been created named SOTW Guy, to which David and I will share access. Dave and I seem to have similar mannerisms, so the transition should be relatively smooth. Thanks to all for participating! Head over to the Discussion thread to chat about the next theme. According to Wikipedia: And to think, many people consider the rat naught but disgusting vermin. Remy* would be saddened. The deadline for this competition is 23:59 (11:59pm) (PST) on Sunday, February 10th. To see the current time in PST to compare it with your local time, click here (WorldTimeServer.com). If you wish to talk about one of the entries you can do so here. If a comment or other non-entry post is mistakenly made in this thread, it will be moved without penalty to the discussion thread.
