  1. What are you wanting to translate/rotate/scale? The whole image? A line or shape that is being drawn? A selection?
  2. Hi @Juxxec welcome to the forum. Before posting again, please take a moment to read the Forum Rules; there's a link at the top and bottom of every page. Note them all and in particular #11.
  3. @Garrymo - In an earlier post, you asked "What am I missing?" and I pointed you towards the documentation. I added "Then gradually work your way through the rest of the Documentation, trying things out as you go. It's a well written document and will help you become proficient in the use of paint.net." So, please do that. You will find the answers to your questions. Read Getting Started -> Overview and Features, then read User Interface -> Main Window and User Interface -> Image List Then read about layers in the Layers section. Then experiment. (In short the thumbnails across the top are separate images. You create multiple Layers within an image).
  4. @DataJuggler You are a long standing member of the forum. Please re-read the Forum Rules. Note in particular #6. Also, please read the License Agreement on the paint.net website https://www.getpaint.net/license.html That will answer your question.
  5. That's not necessarily a completely negative thing, because it can be argued: As paint.net has becomes more capable with each release and the number of plugins has grown, many of the "I wish paint.net could do AAA, BBB, CCC" type of posts that were made in the past are no longer needed. As the number of posts on the forum along the lines of "How do I do XXX, YYY, ZZZ" grows and good answers are given, then it is more likely that people will find the solution to problems without having to ask a question. In support of 2) it should be noted that at anyone time (measured in blocks of 30 minutes), there are typically well over 100 Guest users (right now there are 155 Guests) who are searching the forum and reading previous topics. Guest users massively outnumber logged in members (at the moment there are just 4 online). So, IMO, the forum is doing a good job, even if the rate of new posts is lower than in the past. There may be other factors that result in waning support for SOTW and OotF, but I suspect that the above aspects play a part.
  6. Apart from using the Editable Text plugin that EER mentioned, the answer is no. However, see the Popular Feature Requests: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/2940-popular-feature-requests and note the entry "Ability to re-edit text, or "text layers", or some variation thereof".
  7. It's hard to understand the meaning of your 'why does it default to the "larger-than-before" size?' question, so this may not provide the answer you are seeking, however, you can set the default Brush Size (which is also used by the Eraser), in Settings -> Tools. See https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/SettingsDialog.html#4
  8. Well photoshop dosnt do that. Yes it does because, as stated, the image size can only be a whole number of pixels. Photoshop is just hiding the fact that it is having to round the entered inches value to create the canvas size in pixels. You haven't said what exact Width and Height size you are entering in inches and what Resolution in pixels/inch you have set. Let's do the maths and understand why the rounding of a fractional pixel is (or is not) significant for your project.
  9. @aqlord Are you running the Classic (i.e. free) or the Microsoft Store version of paint.net? Are you certain that you have placed the .dll in the correct FileTypes folder: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/InstallPlugins.html
  10. Please don't. Before posting again, read the Forum Rules. They are mandatory.
  11. Welcome to the forum @Agrajag I was just writing exactly the same steps as @Ego Eram Reputo If doing the above doesn't resolve your desktop wallpaper display problem, then it's a Windows issue and has nothing to do with paint.net
  12. If you look at the menus you will see all the above shortcut keys listed. If you routinely use these, editing the image as described will become second nature (and fast). Edit menu: Cut Ctrl +X Copy Ctrl +C Paste Ctrl +V Paste into New Layer Ctrl+Shift +V Layers menu: Merge Layer Down Ctrl+M (merges the active layer down) Image menu: Flatten Ctrl+Shift +F (merges all layers down) You can learn much more by reading the excellent paint.net Documentation. Click the Help icon top right or press F1 The more you explore, the more proficient you'll become.
  13. You can upload to YouTube or any video sharing site and post the link. Your screenshot is clear though.
  14. @ncwitte Welcome to the forum. See this comment for the reason it fixed it.
  15. @Lxndwich Please take a moment to review the Forum Rules (see the link at the top and bottom of every page). See Rule #1 Now please read the Popular Feature Requests post, and see that it includes: I'm locking this thread as there is nothing else useful to be said.
  16. Honestly, your priority should be to sort out your PC. Change your laptop. Or diagnose and replace the "slowly failing hardware". Or even just do a clean install of Windows. This has nothing to do with paint.net
  17. Welcome to the forum @paco31 Paint.NET invokes the Print Pictures component that Windows provides and has no control over the operation of that screen. It is Print Pictures that limits the Copies field to 99, so you cannot change that. You will either need print multiple times in paint.net or you could save your image and open it in another app, for example IrfanView. IrfanView has a more flexible Print settings window, including the ability to enter up to 9999 in the Copies field.
  18. +1 for aligning the use of Ctrl for Color Picker and Paint Bucket. Note that holding down Ctrl to change the Sampling mode from Layer to Image on the fly cannot be used for Magic Wand (the other tool that has Layer/Image sampling) since Ctrl is used for on the fly application of the Add and Invert selection modes. Additional request: Even if on the fly use of Ctrl is added for Paint Bucket, I would really like to see the ability to set the Sampling mode using a key; i.e. to toggle the setting as though you had clicked the control in the toolbar.
  19. @tybrousseau01 If you are not planning on installing the latest version of the Plugin Browser, then you should delete PluginData.dll from your Effects folder to remove the out of date version. You won't get the plugin error then.
  20. I assume you are referring to the Color Picker. Press Ctrl while using that tool to change on the fly from Sampling Layer to Sampling Image. See the Tip here https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ColorPicker.html If, instead, you are referring to the other tools (Magic Wand, Paint Bucket) that have a Sampling Layer/Image control, then there is no shortcut key to change the mode. NB The 'A' key is not available. It is used by the Shapes Tool. See the Tip here https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ShapeTools.html
  21. Use the Magic Wand but set the Flood Mode in the toolbar to Global. Also please read the excellent paint.net Documentation which explains this and much more. Click the Help icon top right or go here: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/index.html Look at Tools -> Selection Tools -> Magic Wand Tool and Tools -> Selection Tools -> Selection Tools
  22. @tybrousseau01 welcome to the forum. You have provided very limited information: Original Title: "Plugin Error" "I have downloaded a plug in pack" - Yes, but which plugin pack? "Tells me that these plug ins do not run on this version of paint.net and need to update/upgrage." - Yes, but what is the exact message? Do you see 'Plugin errors' at the top of the Effects menu? If so, click it and it will take you to the Plugin Errors page of Settings. - What plugin .dll does it say is in error? - And what is the error text? (Click in the text, press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C to copy it, then paste it here)
  23. Glad you got it fixed @Fritz. As it seems you are new to paint.net, do check the excellent Documentation, which covers all its features. Click the Help icon in paint.net or press F1
  24. ...because F8 is the shortcut key that shows / hides the Colors Window.
  25. @GeorgeHope please do not revive old threads. See rule #11 in the Forum Rules (linked at the top and bottom of this page). @Rick Brewster has written many times in response to offers by people to implement features: "I'm not looking for outside help on this." I think the fact that you are asking this question illustrates why outside help is not sought by the developer. It would be necessary to have a very solid understanding of paint.net's architecture, and its development, build & testing process to design and implement this feature without impacting existing functionality and other planned developments. And paint.net doesn't really do MVP releases - whatever MVP actually means in the context of autosaving and image+history restoration, which feels like an all or nothing feature. Just because a feature is "soooo wanted" or has been requested by several people doesn't warrant making this a pinned thread. Rick manages his own prioritised list of features for future implementation. Then the best thing to do is to quickly save each screenshot when you paste it into paint.net as 01.png, 02.png, 03.png etc. Then, as you work on them, you can periodically press Ctrl+Alt+S which will do a Save All. This would protect against total loss of work when you take a bathroom break and your computer crashes. Also it's best to only allow Windows auto-update reboots during non-work hours. You can rename the 01, 02, 03... files to have intelligent/correct filenames when the furious screenshotting is all done.
