  1. @0rinoco It's always a good idea to first read the comprehensive and well written paint.net Documentation. In paint.net click the Help icon at the top right, or press the shortcut key F1, or bookmark this page https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/index.html The Clone Stamp is described under Tools -> Photo Tools -> Clone Stamp Tool https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/CloneStamp.html The way the tool works has not changed.
  2. @timber_ridge Please do this: 1. Reboot your PC to ensure that any previous installation process is terminated. 2. Use this Microsoft tool to fully remove the previous broken installation https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d 3. Now reinstall paint.net 5.0.13
  3. @NetDotPaint The plugin's page at https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/114600-image-distortion/ contains a note saying where you need to put the OptionBasedLibrary files and there is further discussion of this in the thread. I've edited the note to make it bolder now.
  4. OK... 1. Go to https://forums.getpaint.net/ 2. Click on Paint.NET Search 3. Type marble texture in the search box 4. Have a look at the very first result https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/24293-veined-marble-texture/ 5. Try that tutorial and see how close you can get the marble texture to what you require 6. If it's not quite right, post your results here so that people can advise you how to get closer
  5. I'm glad that is resolved now. Were you a long way behind on paint.net versions? Now that you are on the latest version, it would be worth turning on the automatic check for updates in Settings so you always keep up to date: It is better to keep up to date with bug fixes and new features than to keep using an old version. If you receive an update error when the next version is released, then do please ask about it in the forum.
  6. This suggests that you may not be using the latest version of paint.net (5.0.13), which does change its cursor size based on the Windows pointer size setting. This capability was introduced last year in 5.0.10. Below, you can see that I have increased the Windows pointer size to 4 from its usual value of 1. All the paint.net cursors become larger as expected.
  7. I have just clicked on the .zip in the first post and it has downloaded correctly in each of Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. Also if I right click and copy the link, then it pastes as expected as https://forums.getpaint.net/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=21189&key=c22a0ce82c264787ef702b21595d1a8c and then downloads the zip correctly. I see nothing wrong here. What browser are you using @Silverdenn?
  8. @fuser3000 You can limit the region being filled by creating a selection. You can read about the Paint Bucket fill tool here: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/PaintBucket.html And the Selection tools here: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/SelectionTools.html You may find that the Magic Wand helps. Please post an image of your character so people can give you specific advice.
  9. @Whirlygig please use this Microsoft tool to fully remove the previous broken installation https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d
  10. @Laurie please do not revive 5 year old threads; it is against the Forum Rules See #11. If you have done everything that is explained above in this thread and you still have a question, then please ask it in a new topic.
  11. This is also explained in a Tip in the Documentation https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ColorPicker.html See the Sampling Modes heading.
  12. @Painted Butterfly I'm now wondering whether you are really using paint.net or whether you are talking about a different app and have come to the wrong forum. To crop in paint.net you simply make a selection and then do Image -> Crop to Selection or press the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+X In paint.net there is nowhere to "click OK" when cropping. Nothing has changed in paint.net What app are you using please?
  13. How are you making the rotation? I'm guessing using Layers -> Rotate/Zoom? And what do you mean by "Now that I cannot see the image"? The image should remain visible as you rotate it. Nothing has changed in paint.net in this respect. What exactly is happening? At what point does the image disappear for you?
  14. I'm glad you got it sorted @rbersan Which TrustView are you referring to? There appear to be several apps in existence with that name.
  15. Could you start paint.net (don't use the selection tools) and go to Settings -> Diagnostics -> Copy to clipboard and paste the text here. Also click Open crash log folder and see whether there are any pdncrash.n.log files. These are text files and the content can be emailed to the address shown on the first line of the file. Your wording suggests that paint.net used to work correctly on your system. Do you have any idea what changed just prior to the problem starting? You may have malware on your PC. See Trojan.KeyLogger.43099 https://vms.drweb.com/virus/?i=23537722 I'd suggest doing a full scan using Defender (part of Windows) and/or installing a scanner such as Malwarebytes and seeing what that reports.
  16. I can't reproduce that. I've just tried the Simulate Color Depth plugin with a range of Bit Depths, with and without Dither checked, and using Dither Methods of Floyd-Steinberg and Bayer Ordered 8x8. It works OK on paint.net 5.0.13. However if I select the Stucki dither method, the rendering gets stuck part way through (it never completes). If I then try to select a different dither method, the plugin crashes with: PaintDotNet.WorkerThreadException: Worker thread threw an exception ---> System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array. [EDIT: I've just noticed that @Ego Eram Reputo mentioned the Stucki crash already] Full error log:
  17. Or maybe "Editing Window", which is the terminology used in the Docs: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/MainWindow.html#7
  18. What I do when I want accurate cropping of a scanned photo that might be misaligned by a few pixels is to quickly check each of the 4 corners and adjust the selection as necessary. Here's the sequence I follow: 1. Press M M to activate the Move Selection tool 2. Press Ctrl+A to Select All 3. Press Ctrl+B to Zoom to Window 4. Move the mouse pointer to the top left corner of the photo. 5. Ctrl+Mouse Wheel or hold down Ctrl++ to quickly Zoom In on the corner. 6. Position the mouse pointer over the selection edge (the pointer changes to a hand) and adjust the selection by a couple of pixels to exclude the misalignment. 7. Press Ctrl+B to Zoom to Window Repeat steps 4-7 for the top right / bottom left / bottom right corners, then press Ctrl+Shift+X to Crop to Selection Note that at step 6, it is not necessary to grab the circular selection 'nub'; you can adjust the selection by grabbing anywhere along its edge. The above may seem like a lot of steps but it's actually really fast once you get into the swing of it.
  19. In paint.net, do you have Settings -> Pen & Tablet -> Windows Ink checked? Do you see laggy drawing when using the pen in other apps?
  20. I don't think so. 1. @ghope said they had antialiasing turned on 2. The high tolerance when they do: "Fill below curve using color B (bottom color), tolerance 84%" will be selecting the antialias transition pixels and will fill them all with solid colour; hence the jagged appearance. @Pixey has the best solution - but make sure you don't set the tolerance too high when you fill the second half.
  21. In fact it's Google generating the warning. Firefox uses Google's Safe Browsing service to check downloads. This article is a few years old, so the UI has changed a bit, but the details are still correct: https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2016/08/01/enhancing-download-protection-in-firefox/ You can turn it off in Settings:
  22. False positive. I see the same warning when downloading using Firefox. However, once downloaded, scanning the .zip with Microsoft Defender shows that there are no threats.
  23. v4.0.20 was released 6 years ago! You need to update to the current version of paint.net - v5.0.13. Sorry but no help can be given for older versions. See the Forum Rules #7
  24. ☝️ is left as an exercise for the coder 😉
