Rick Brewster
Do you already have a version of Paint.NET installed? If so, try first uninstalling it manually via Add / Remove Programs. nes2989
woohoo! problem solved. off of a hunch i uninstalled windows installer 3.1, and before i re-installed it tried paint.net again and it worked! thanks for all of the help, and who would've thunk it? Rick Brewster
Well I don't know if it's worth uninstall a major Windows component in order to get Paint.NET to work. I'm in the process of putting up v2.6 Alpha 2. This probably won't fix the problem but it will provide an error code number when it gives you the "There was an error" message. This number maps to something like ERROR_INSTALL_REMOTE_DISALLOWED (just an example) which should help me figure out what's going on.
