Open a single-layered image in Paint.NET from a file. File > New simply won't do. I tested with PNGs.

Add a new layer.

Move the new layer to the bottom.

Duplicate the top layer.

Merge the top layer down with the middle layer.

Undo.

Only the top and middle layers are showing now. The bottom one is gone. Click in the layer window where it should be, and it reappears.

Weird.

Sometimes it didn't reproduce for me either. Here are the screenshots though. (The low screen resolution is just for the screenshots. It happens regardless)

Good, good. Got an ETA for fixies? Normally it's a very rarely encountered bug and is quite out-of-the-way, but on one image I was working on today it was simply maddening! I know you're busy so I'm not trying to rush you or anything. I can always just work on my Vista box.

Well, it was 20 minutes of investigation / analysis that resulted in 1 new line of code. Funny how it usually works like that.

Interestingly, I was unable to reproduce this if Windows->Translucent was disabled. Nor in Vista -- ever (Aero on or off). So it seems to be some discrepancy with layered window rendering in XP (not to be confused with image layers). *shrug* Oh well!

True, but even using XP, this would normally be a very rare bug to encounter. Doesn't matter now, though, 'cause Rick gone and fixed 'er up! Yay Rick!

*hugs Rick*
