Help with cropping and borders

Recommended Posts

I am absolutely computer illiterate.

HOWEVER.. I HAVE read the tutorials, and searched this forum and I feel like I'm going to blow a gasket.

I have an Etsy shop.

I post photos of my art in the shop.

All I want to do is to be able to make simple colored frames around my photos.

So here is what is happening.

I'm opening my photo.

I'm using the selection tool for the Rounded Rectangle, adjusting the width and color.

It looks great!

THEN when I try to crop out the extra part of the photo, the cropping tool will not work.

I've tried everything.

I can't figure out how to do this.

Please.. can someone help me?

Thanks!

Okay, tell us more about how you're cropping it. I don't think I quite understand.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

I'm using the selection tool for the Rounded Rectangle, adjusting the width and color.

there is no rounded rectangle SELECTION

what you need to do is put the rounded rectangle on a seperate layer then using magic wand select outside the rectangle, and hit Ctrl-I to invert your selection.. then use the Crop-to selection function, then flatten your image and youre done:D

Are you referring to this tool :RoundedRectangleTool: ( Rounded Rectangle)?

If yes, then this is not a selection tool.

You need to do these steps, if I correctly understand you:

-Add anew layer: Layers>Add New Layer

-On this new layer, make the rounded rectangle with the tool that your are using :RoundedRectangleTool:

-On same layer, select the extra parts you want to crop to using Magic Wand tool :MagicWandTool: , (to select, activate the magic wand and click any where on the extras you want to crop to)

-Invert the selection: Edit>Invert Selection

-Then click :Crop: Crop : Image>Crop to Selection

-And save as PNG, Flatten when ask, but don't forget to keep a copy of your original images in a safe place.
