planbincome
I just purchased the e-cover engineer on a recommendation that I could not only create e-book covers, but edit existing ones as well, but I can't figure out how to do it. Has anyone done this? thanks Dave
david.atwell
Well, on Paint.NET, once text has been added, it cannot be removed. If the program you're asking about isn't Paint.NET, I recommend taking this question elsewhere. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.Amy: But how did it end up in there? The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

So there is No way to do this, change text on an already existing e-cover? Well thanks for replying anyway. Dave

Simon Brown
It is PAINT.net ECover Engineer uses PAINT.net as their default image editor. Does it look like this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PaintDotNet-3.5-Screenshot.png

Sarkut
Whether an existing cover can be edited effectively depends on the nature of the pre-existing image. Can you post an example of a cover that you would like to edit? Of course if you have the existing covers in .pdn filetype that makes things much easier. It sounds to me like the developer of that program made Paint.NET part of their product when it was still open source.
david.atwell
Twas never open source. It was released-source, which is a big difference. planbincome
Twas never open source. It was released-source, which is a big difference. I didn't want to do this and bore this list further with my question after a week of no replies... but you said I must if I want an answer so here goes: What do you think David, is there a way to edit my cover text? I do have a flat version to work on if that would be easier. Also I thought of a way but not sure PAINT.net can do it... insert a colored box over the existing text and then type new text into that box. But I haven't figured out how to get that done. Do you know of anyone that is developing and editing e-covers? have a great day. Dave
Sarkut
Dave, pls. post the flat version. I believe that it would be easier to work on. Also, specifically what parts of the text etc. do you want to change?

Also I want to change text on edge of cover on the left of surface. Thanks,Dave
Sarkut
To remove the title, first use the Color Picker tool. Left-click the orange color just below the last "S" in "SUCCESS". Right-click the dark gray just above the black outline of the "O" in "TO". This sets Primary and Secondary colors. ============================== Then make a new transparent layer above the e-book cover image layer. Make a rectangular selection of the title area from the bottom of the AuthorName bar to where the orange color stops. It will slightly overlap the orange tip of the "jigsaw-puzzle-stairway". Now, use the Gradient tool, set to Linear Gradient. Left-click and drag from the bottom to the top of the selection. Press Esc to deselect. Carefully erase over the tip of the "jigsaw-puzzle-stairway". Make a new layer to put the new title text on. Sarkut
For changing the author, make a rectangular selection of the right side of that upper bar. Press: Ctrl C Ctrl+Shift V This will copy/paste the selection into a new layer. Use the keyboard left arrow key to move that selection over to cover the current author name. Apply Motion blur at 0 degrees and a distance of 10.
