punkmama
I'm having some issues with PDN...obviously since I'm posting here. I've had PDN since 2007 and have had no issues 'till now. I'm trying to open PDN with no success, I had the previous version but after reading FAQ and such I downloaded to new version which was no help. I'm not totally convinced that this is a problem with PDN itself, but I'm not a techy and would like to know if there is a way to give PDN "a kick in the butt" to get it working again. Like maybe using the Run feature in the Start menu. Comp- Acer Aspire One OS- Windows XP Any other info you need? Quote Check out my DeviantArt gallery. Sarkut
punkmama: Info needed to begin with: What is your installed Service Pack level on XP and are you fully current with Windows Updates? Do you have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed? Have you had a chance to look through this thread yet? If any error messages come up when you try to open PDN, please post screenshots. punkmama
service pack is three. I'm current on all updates yes I do have .net framwork 3.5 sp1 And yes I did look through that topic (and many others) but my issue is not with errors, uninstalling,or installing. This issue started about a week ago when I still had the pervious version of PDN installed. I updated to the new version after reading FAQ topic stating that I will get no help if I don't have the current version installed. I had no issues with the update... PDN just won't open =( Quote Check out my DeviantArt gallery. All my photomanips are made with PDN
Sarkut
Okay. Just to be sure that I understand. PdN stopped opening while you still had the previous version. It was a sudden change, no error messages or other warning signs. The update installation to v. 3.51 gave every appearance of proceeding without problem. When you click on the desktop shortcut or start menu shortcut absolutely nothing happens? Have you tried double-clicking directly on the PaintDotNet.exe file in the program folder? Have you tried running PdnRepair?
punkmama
You got it... I've tried everything you listed EXCEPT running PDN repair. How do I go about doing that? Sarkut
PdnRepair is an .exe file in the Paint.NET program folder. Just double-click on it.

punkmama
OK this is really weird...I tried to uninstall PDN so that I can reinstall it from scratch. Well PDN is nowhere to be found in Add/Remove Programs, so I tried the Windows Install Cleanup and it's nonexistent. Hmmm. What do I do now? Quote Check out my DeviantArt gallery. Let me now what you see ! I don't see my HD's ( C & D ). Only my CDdrive ( E ) and DVDdrive ( F ) are visible. Before my problems with PDN, everything was oke there. Sarkut
punkmama, Is there a Paint.NET folder in Program Files? It might be worthwhile to run a chkdsk scan. Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware scans would be good, too.

I run Anti-Malwarebyes, SAS and CyberDefender daily. Windows Defender and Disk Cleanup weekly. And Defrag monthly. Quote Check out my DeviantArt gallery. Sarkut
For directions, just Google search, "chkdsk XP". ==================================== Also, in the Paint.NET program folder, check the properties of the application file to see whether it shows as v. 3.51 or the previous version. Pls. use regedit to navigate to: HKLM / Software / Paint.NET and get a screenshot.

Rick Brewster
What you probably need to do at this point is to get a new hard drive. Sounds like yours is failing, as indicated by the rest of the system crumbling and falling apart.
