paint.net 5.0.9 is now available!

Recommended Posts

This is a small update that fixes a few important bugs.

Get the Update

There are two releases of Paint.NET:

  • Microsoft Store release (recommended)
  • Classic Desktop release
    • Download the installer from the website. This is the recommended download if you don't have Paint.NET installed. It can also be used to update the app.
    • If you already have it installed, you should be offered the update automatically within the next few days, but you can also get it immediately by going to ⚙ Settings -> Updates -> Check Now.
    • Offline Installers and Portable ZIPs are available over on GitHub.

Change Log

Changes since v5.0.8:

  • Fixed: When using Alt+Tab, the internal state of the Alt key could get 'stuck' when the Shapes or Line/Curve tool was active, causing the next shape or line/curve to be drawn from the center
  • Fixed: Sliders were not responding to the mouse wheel (regression in 5.0.8)
  • Fixed the DeviceEffect.Properties.Min/MaxInputCount properties, which were throwing an ArgumentException (for plugin authors)
  • Fixed a rare crash at app exit due to a race condition in the auto-updater
  • Fixed a rare crash when the system resumes from sleep mode, due to a race condition in DWM reporting whether composition is enabled
  • Fixed a rare crash when using copy+paste due to .NET Runtime issue #84994 https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/issues/84994
  • Updated the bundled DDSFileTypePlus plugin to v1.12.2.0, which fixes the inability to save on ARM64 systems (thanks @null54!)
  • Updated the bundled WebPFileType plugin to v1.3.19.0, which fixes the inability to save on ARM64 systems (thanks @null54!)

O Mighty Brewster,  BOWINGFEMALSTICKFIGURE.png.241a75412c4994a9efae7de79a1d5ad8.pngThanks muchly for the upgrade. Love it!

Can you do this little old lady a favor?  I'm building a printables store and pretty much live in Paint.Net. However, your cursor is a teeny tiny micron lost in a sea of dots in layers.  I can't find it even on the workspace, so I move the color wheel around to where I need to be so I can see my cursor.

Is there a way for you to make it more visible, or give us the option to enlarge it?  Below is an example of the artwork I assemble and alter to use on planners or sharpen to use as a stand-alone:

So.  How long is an hour to a mayfly?

@BMP, in the next update I'm going to have cursor scaling. You'll be able to configure it in Windows Settings. This will let you make the cursor bigger. In fact, you may already be using it, Paint.NET just isn't honoring the setting.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, Rick.

You wrote, "Paint.NET just isn't honoring the setting."  Um, I upgraded to 5...9, and I realize that cursor scaling wasn't part of the deal, but where exactly do I find the setting your app isn't honoring?  Or should I just go bake some brownies for now and wait for the next upgrade?

Hugs,

Annie

Paint.NET isn't honoring the Windows Setting that is highlighted in the screenshot that I posted. It lets you make the cursor bigger.

This is something originally requested by @midora at https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/121430-paintnet-50-beta-build-8376/?do=findComment&comment=603337 . I've been getting a bunch of requests for it lately, for whatever reason, so I'm prioritizing it.

FYI, the image is not visible here.
Its URL is https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=2&ik=682453307e......  so I'm guessing that's private to you

Oh my goodness.  You are a blessing, Rick, trying so hard to get that danged image to show.  I dismissed it after clicking on the icon 'cause when it opened I thought it was just an ad for something Google.

Thanks for posting the pic.  Yeah, I see what you are saying.  My cursor is set to a bit larger than the default and it's pink, of course.  BUT getting it to remain my personal default is a job for Sisyphus.  Your thinking seems to be point on - create a scaler for Paint.NET.
